“I see you, princess, and I will have you. Just wait and see…”

“Ryo-chan, Hiroki-kun, me and Kei-chan are going to go take care of and pick flowers today~,” Yuya announced excitedly. “And we’re going to make a big bouquet!”
“Why can’t you act more like a boy?” Ryo snapped. “And why is it that you call ME, the obviously more manly one, Ryo-chan while you call him Hiroki-kun??”
“Because Ryo-chan is Ryo-chan,” Yuya answered simply, looking up at him with innocent eyes. “And picking flowers isn’t for girls! Kei-chan is doing it with me!”
“Because Kei’s a…” Ryo trailed off when he saw Hiroki glare at him.
“Ryo, just admit that you don’t want to go because you’re still mad at Kei for changing winter to spring. It’s April, Ryo. How much winter can you want? And you’re not as manly as you think, mister,” Hiroki said, annoyed.
“And you are?” Ryo retorted, reaching out his cold hands and touching the soles of Hiroki’s feet, making him squeal.
“Ryo-chan, that’s not fair!” Hiroki shouted, pulling away. “You’re Winter!”
“I know,” Ryo grinned, a mischievous smirk forming.
“I’m going~” Yuya said, but he knew they weren’t paying attention anyways. Ryo was too busy chasing Hiroki around the room.
“Kei-chan! You ready to go?” Yuya asked when he got to entrance of their large home.
“Yup,” Kei grinned, ruffling Yuya’s hair affectionately. “Ne…is Ryo-chan still mad at me?”
“Yeah,” Yuya sighed. “But he needs to grow up. He can’t have winter forever, and you were patient enough as it is. He’ll get over it, though. He always does.”
“Aww~ Yuya’s defending me!” Kei said, laughing. “Alright, come on. Let’s go.”
“Ano…Kei-chan? Can you tell me about us again?” Yuya asked shyly as they made their journey down to Earth.
“Again? Don’t you ask this every time?” Kei groaned, but he couldn’t ignore the look on Yuya’s face. “Okay okay. I’ll tell it again. But stop asking, seriously. Why don’t you tell it to me?”
“Because Kei-chan tells stories really well. It’d be boring if I told it.”
“You…fine. Okay, so there are four sylphs that rule the seasons,” Kei began.
“And humans can’t see the sylphs, unless the sylphs want them to!” Yuya supplied helpfully.
“If you’re going to interrupt me, I’m not going to tell it to you,” Kei growled, and Yuya shut up.
“The four Sylphs are me, you, Hiroki, and Ryo. We are each in charge of one of the seasons. You, Yuya, are Summer, because of your bright personality. You are cheerful, and bring life to the Earth. Hiroki is Autumn, because he is cool and composed, but he also provides the plentiful harvest for the humans. Ryo is Winter, because of his cold, harsh nature. But he’s also Winter because even though his outward appearance is mean, he’s actually warm inside, like homes during that season. And I, Keiichiro, am Spring.”
“Because Kei-chan is kind and loving, making Spring the time for new life,” Yuya murmured. “But sometimes you’re too nice! That’s why Ryo gets away with taking over some of your Springtime to prolong his Winter!”
“That doesn’t matter. As long as I get enough time so that new things can grow and new animals can be born, ne?” Kei answered, smiling. “That’s my job.”
“But…I haven’t been a Sylph as long as the rest of you guys, have I?” Yuya said.
Kei’s expression grew dark. “I told you, we’ll tell you when you’re ready.”
But I’m ready now…Yuya wanted to say, but he knew he couldn’t. Kei was nice, but he was firm when he wanted to be.
“So tell me more about Sylphs,” Yuya said, trying to ease the tension.
Kei took a breath before continuing. “Yes, like you said earlier, humans cannot see the Sylphs, because they are like spirits of the air. However, when we go down to Earth, we can choose whether we want the humans to see us or not. We appear like normal humans to them, but when we return to our home in the sky, they cannot see us.”
“And are we safe that way?” Yuya asked.
Kei paused before answering, “Yes. But…”
“But?”
“Be careful of the Lord of the Underworld…”
“He doesn’t like Sylphs?”
“…No, he doesn’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because he had a bad experience with one…”
“Was it the previous Summer Sylph?” Yuya asked, though he knew the answer.
“Yes…But don’t worry, okay?” Kei hurriedly added. “We’ll protect you, no matter what.”
Yuya nodded and smiled happily.
“Look Kei!! The flowers we planted last week are already growing!! How pretty!!”
------------------------------------
“Why are we doing this?” a young demon asked, annoyed.
“Because Pi told us to,” his friend answered simply, fluffing up some pillows.
“He did? When?”
“Well, he told me. Where were you?”
“And I’ll tell you again now,” a low voice spoke from the doorway. The two demons jumped.
“Don’t scare us like that, Pi!”
Pi ignored their comment. “Is the room ready?”
“Yes, Pi.”
“What’s it for, Pi?” the uninformed demon questioned.
“First of all, stop calling me Pi! I’m the master of this place. You should come up with a more respectable title,” he growled. “The room? It’s for my princess.”
“Your what?”
“You heard me. Now I’m off to fetch my princess, so you two stay put. I’ll be back soon.”
“Yes Pi.”
“Okay--STOP calling me that!”
-------------------------------------------------
Yuya ran among the flowers, laughing and throwing his hands up in the air. Kei had to run extra fast to keep up with him.
“Yuya, stop,” Kei gasped. “I haven’t exercised my human form in a while…”
“We were here a couple days ago!”
“Well, I wasn’t running around like you were.”
“Then what were you doing?” Yuya asked, cocking his head to one side. That’s right. He couldn’t remember what happened to Kei because he had been so absorbed in planting his own little garden that Kei designated for him.
Kei blushed a little and turned away from Yuya.
“I was…planting of course,” he said quickly, clearing his throat. “Why don’t you go water your garden, while I take care of the land over there. Ryo’s snow is sticking around a little bit too long, so I have to go melt it. Don’t stray too far, okay?”
“Okay! And Kei-chan? I can go with you to take care of the baby animals, right?”
“Of course,” Kei smiled. “I’ll come back and check on you in a while.”
Yuya hummed a little tune as he walked along a little path that led to a small stream holding a container to fill water with.
He frowned when he came to the end of one song. He usually got to the stream by then.
“Maybe I’m walking slower today?” he said to himself.
His eyes were suddenly drawn to a thick grove of trees by the path and he shuddered. It was dark in there, and he didn’t like the dark.
Just as he was about to keep going, something made him freeze.
A beautiful young man was walking towards him. He was dressed in black from head to toe, and had the most extraordinary eyes Yuya had ever seen.
“Yuya,” the man whispered, and shivers ran through Yuya’s body.
“Who are you?”
The man didn’t answer, but instead, leaned forward to touch his forehead. Yuya felt himself grow extremely dizzy, and his vision grew fuzzy.
“Kei-chan! Help me!” he screamed, before everything turned black.
