I love to shop at thrift stores. I have gotten to the point where I do my best to get everything I can from them, I have become cheap. Dress for my boss's wedding, yep, Goodwill, hell I would have worn a Goodwill dress for my own wedding if I thought I could find one. I have had my "holy grail" items that I will search for. My previous was a pair of t strap maryjanes in brown, it took me a while but I did find a pair, and Doc Martins to boot!
I have had it in my head that I need a stand mixer. I want a Kitchen Aid in the absolute worst way. The price tag probably won't allow that anytime soon. So I thought I might start out with a Sunbeam mixmaster, my mother had one that she had before I was around. I am pretty sure my cunting ex-stepmonster has it or gave it to one of her daughters, well I know which one if she did, because one Christmas for her daughter the "chef" (she was a cook in a damn nursing home) they bought her the Kitchen Aid. (I didnt want one at the time, and had no idea the cost).
So, I decide I am going to go run into one of the Goodwill stores near me, and see what they had. The doors slid open, and the angel sang, there it was a fairly new Sunbeam Mixmaster, with both beaters, and the small and large mixing bowls. Really? I thought to myself, they are going to want $40 or $50 for this. And then I think it would have been a good price, out of my current budget, but still a good price. I wandered over to it, just for shits and giggles, and it was marked $10. $10!!!! Holy crap, I can pay that!!! But, wait, there is more . . . oh, reality set in. I bet it doesnt work . . . . so off to the power strip. I plugged it in, got the beaters where they are to go, and turned it on. Holy shit balls . . . it works! And I have been saving a 20% off coupon forever, and now I know why. I got an approximately $80 mixer for $8. This is why I thrift. I may not get a diamond everytime, and yes I probably get crap because it is cheap, even thought I might not need it. But this was a beautiful day.
As a side note Akron is actually a hotbed for thrift stores, there are at LEAST 5 Goodwills, 2 Salvation Armies, and 2 Village Discounts within 5 to 10 miles of my house.
