gave my poor sick self extra time to sleep this morning; woke up at seven, took my time through breakfast and the morning office routine (HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANN MARIE!), didn’t get to sue’s ‘til like ten-thirty.

caught up with all the latest greatest:
BJ has been moved back to her normal spot with Andrew and Amy. Her three kittens are in the nursery; doing fine.
Amanda is still in the Maternity cage, she had three kittens as well, but Sue has yet to pull them.
Although Alice is definitely bred, she’s not far enough along to be in danger, so she’s back in with Robie and the two babies.
Blackfoot (Beau) is doing better at feeding time; Erin is able to go into his cage and tell him “Get back, get back” and he isn’t as aggressive...yay! :)

cleaned the cattery from 11 to approx 12:15
ate lunch from 12:15 til 12:40
finished the cattery at 1:30
between 2:30 and 3, Sue, Erin and some guests came in and took pictures of the cats
sometime between 3 and 3:30, i left the cattery to spend some time with the bobs.
went home at 4...ish. (dinner at Becky’s at 6:30 - don’t be late!)

general cattery observations:
maybe it’s the weather (it’s hotter today than it has been in a while), but everybody seemed crabby today. even the old faithfuls (Sunshine, Ivan, Sandy, etc...) were a bit in the grumpy side...but not too bad once i grabbed the toybox. i played musical cages for a while... couldn’t decide who i wanted to hang out with... in the end i gave Abby my chair, BJ the dog-rope, Sunshine the green bear, Taz my empty water bottle and i ended up on the floor in Beau’s cage with the people-rope.

Beau was so grouchy today; i was insulted and i told him so. the whole time i was cleaning the cattery he wouldn’t chirp at me once and this continued once i brought the toybox out, so i didn’t go in with him until he started showing interest. i gave everybody else toys to get him good and jealous. :) went in the cage; he’s getting so much better at not having to be right at the gate all the time. seemed happy to see the rope and played with it (and me) for a good half an hour before he got bored. i got to pet him on the head a couple more times (unKONGmuzzled), but i don’t think he likes it. yet. Erin saw me playing with him and made another comment on how much he changes when i’m with him (she’s very generous with her complements! <3), and still maintains that he will only be this way with me. i don’t like to think about that; i can’t help but believe that he’s got to be able to trust others as well... i’m not bound to Sue’s forever and he’ll have one heck of a sour life if he not only is distrustful of other cats but all humans too.

after he got bored of the rope, i took pity on him and pulled out the KONG. he loves to hate that thing; chirped and chirped until i gave it to him. he came a bit close to jumping me for it, but by the grace of God he stayed where he was and let me talk to him before bouncing it on the ground. i wonder if it’s healthy to let him have it... Sue says he treats it like prey; kills it and then walks around with it like a trophy for twenty minutes. he just seems to angry when he has it; i wonder if i should be encouraging that kind of behavior at this point in the game. i guess it can’t hurt to let him have it every once in a while...but not every time. he does love to hate that thing. anyhoo, i left him with it while i went to visit the bobs and when i came back and tempted him with the rope, he spit it out and i was able to recover it without drama. :)

the bobcat cage was interesting today; Casey seemed more aggressive than normal; i didn’t trust her to even sniff my leg too long and she looked like she was going to rush me a few times... I’m glad i have the “babies” in there with me; claws are very intimidating and i hate to think what would happen if i tried to interact with them without the safe distraction of stuffed animal flesh. but then again, i wonder if i should be associating myself with these toys all the time. i mean, Casey gets so aggressive with those things; today is the first time that i actually didn’t feel safe enough to let her come up to my face b/c she was so charged. i need to be able to pet them while they’re playing with the “babies”, but right now i’m so unprotected and i know they’ll (Casey and Timber too) just turn around and chomp me. maybe i’ll look into some kangaroo leather gloves... something solid-er.

OC didn’t come out of his box all day - even when tempted with toys. he was skinny last week and now he won’t come out. sadness. on a lighter note, sarah came out to play today and was quite active. ;)

Other sides:
One of the emus kicked Sue the other day and she’s got a hole in her arm because of it. stupid thing got in with the baby deer and freaked out when Sue tried to herd it out again...Erin’s owl is getting big. pretty soon she’s going to start teaching it to fly. i love that thing; it’s so stinkin’ cool...the macaws were moved into their big cage last weekend. they seem to be happier; maybe they’ll stop plucking themselves now. i hope so; i should go to ParrotsPlus and see whether they will donate some parrot toys for them...Lily doesn’t chirp at me anymore; how sad. ...still no sign of the baby girl from Vanishing Species...

i’m sure there is more, but i have to run. see you next week - Kelly is coming with me! *woot*
