A bunch of rants I cooked up (one with the help of a friend) and am posting out of impulse and anger.

Warning, spoilers for the manga chapters abound, upto the latest.

Winry

Shut up about her boobs. No one seems to complain about the abs Edward didn't have back when Xiaomei saw him wang in the shower, but now the boy has a six-pack. but of, if Winry grows a bit during her absense, she's a slut! ZOMG!

Everyone seems to be ragging on her for her growth spurt.

Yet no one seems to mind these new abs on Ed. :/

Oh and, someone actually said that Riza fanservice was fine, but now Winry. Wow, yeah, because Winry sucks and how dare she have some share of the limelight as well, right?

Why the hell are girls so effing catty about sizes? Honestly?

Now onto the debate of Winry VS. Rose, joy.

You know what, while I like manga Rose, she has a personality, and hellt he rubber ducky with the eyepatch is effing awesome. I also think Rose is the new Hughes, based on recent events between Rose and Winry.

First thought: Rose is channeling Hughes!

As for Anime!Rose... people think I don't like her beacuse of the dance, because I am an EdWinry fan. I actually liked the dance and agreed it was romantic-- that doesn't mean I think it's love, since romance and love are not the same thing, but yeah... I didn't like her beacuse of the badly-done sob-story, anyhow- I get mad when I see these people going all "Arakawa must be on a permanent go-around to think Winry would be a better lead female then Rose.

Now if you ask me, Winry is a breath of fresh air.

To quote a friend, Puckish Elf...

Winry is the female lead! I guess people don't like women with BRAINS; thank you Arakawa for being a WOMAN. Only a woman would come up with a character like Winry.

People are too used to anime where the "best friend" can never be the "girlfriend," where it has to be some airheaded, big-breasted Sue. (There's one counter for people hounding on EdWinry for being sooo cliché).

Winry breaks ALL boundaries and expectations; her design sets up certain expectations of her, and then she not briefly, but SLOWLY shatters them ALL.

At first you think she's gonna be the blonde bimbo; she breaks that by being a brilliant mechanic.

So then you think she's going to be the feisty chick; she breaks that by being sensitive and caring about the Elrics.

^Then you think she's going to be the weepy baggage girl who PRETENDS to be feisty, then she breaks THAT by proving that she doesn't just have brains, she has WISDOM and MATURITY.

And THEN she goes and does something TOTALLY off the wall like in the manga, when she didn't exactly FORGIVE Scar, but she was grown up enough to just BEAR it. And she MENDED HIM; that was hard to swallow. But dramatic as that was, what was HARDER to wrap my mind around was that SHE WAS THE ONE who had the idea of being the bait of pretending to be Scar's hostage!

To be so TRUSTING, to just hang there limp in the arm of her parents' killer, that takes more than cahones. That takes a true appreciation for strategic brilliance.

Also note that when she's being used as a trump card against Ed, by Bradley, and you think it's going to be one of those hero-protects-girl thing, but she proves you wrong by getting herself out of the hostage situation with Kimbley smartly.

Winry also has this carefree side, and more playful side as well as serious. She'll yell at you for pinking on Ed or Al, while she'll also say to Al, "Let's stuff ice down Ed's pants! >D"

Winry's attitude, her wisdom yet childlike personality, her ability to be rough and sympathetic and to be so important without tagging along with the main hero, is amazing. Her ability to be the first girl that comes to mind when you thik of Edward, even though she was not the first pretty young thing to appear, is an amazing feat for Arakawa, and damn if that isn't something fresh and new.

And while the best friends thing may be done, it's done in a way that's very deep, and so childish yet understanding and mature, so simple yet complicated, so fluffy yet angsty, so... flexible. And anyways, clichés are cliché for a reason --they happen.

And some people happen to like them. God forbid!

I never got the whole best friends shouldn't be in love thing. Yes, because everyone must meet randomly and have some freak roamnce without even truly having a conversation to be a couple! Because everything must be the same, yes?

Mei.

I just don't understand. For Mei, what's wrong with a girl not being some tall, busty bombshell? What's wrong with her being so intelligent at twelve (yes, she has boobs) when that trait is used on every frickin character in FMA? What's wrong with a girl fangirling over guys (no one seems to mind Ling or Roy being womanizers), and what's wrong with being happy?

^See? She has boobs sticking through her winter coat-- she's at least twelve.

And what's wrong with being a canon love interest for Alphonse? Or having had a crush on rockstar!Ed of her fantasy beforehand. Ohnoes, she likes the ever-sought-after Edwrad Elric and she's an actual character! She must die!

It wasn't like with Edward how she liked him for some image, with Alphonse he's actually saved her and taken care of her and they talked. god forbid it's not some world-turning freak-romance moment.

^See? Even Winry ships AlMei! And we all know Winry's one wise chick.

Sigh... Walking into a fic and seeing her dead with no sympathy, without warning, thinking it would be fine and dandy to read because hey, it portarys another very bashed but awesome character... Fun!

It's also kind of OOC, having no one care. I don't like anime!Rose too much, but I don't doubt Ed cared for her as a friend at least, and would care if she died. (Still, I can't ever see them lasting as a couple, if they ever became one)

And for Mei to be dead and people be so cold about it... umm...

I don't care what people write, it would just be nice to have a warning...

I didn't like Mei at first honestly, but she gew on me. Her funny little fantasies, they way she's so different from the other FMA characters, the wya she's there to show that Scar isn't that bad of a person, the way she's so childish yet independant. It's just really a break from all the older and more angsty people in FMA.

Moving on...

Rant on fandom Nazis in the FMA fandom

Warning, copypasta'd rant from moi.

Based on the words of some jerk on the forums, EdWinry is "pointless drivel" and people are idiots for being happy about them than wanting more action.

Yeah, because PAIRINGS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN, AMIRITE? Only what they want should happen. Because pairings are so over-rated, and we're all looking for something different and tragic and dry, yes? Because a story's not good unless it's overflowing with nothing but plot, and no character interaction that happens in everyday life. (Hell, in everyday life, it's all "What dress should I wear? Would he like it? NUUUU")

They shouldn't try to change the spirit of a story. If they want no romance... they should go read Death Note! Why are they reading the FMA manga. Didn't Hughes constantly teasing Ed and Winry about getting it on clue them in, way back in volume four?

It's Arakawa's choice, and let those who want to enjoy it, enjoy it.

Yeah, people come for the action, but stay for the characters and how the plot and situations develop. it's not all about fighting, Ed does not always win, etc. It also has fresh character interactions that make you want to jump up and down.

Quoting from a favorite book of mine, "The tale is wiser than the teller". Say, you are reading a story about a bunch of people hiding from bad guys, and at one point they hide in an olive jar-- the person who you told the story to might just be enamoured with the concept of hiding in a olive jar and try it.

So yeah... EdWinry fans find EdWinry awesome while still enjoying the story.

Whether they like it or not, Arakawa loves family scenerios. Like it or not, Ed's prolly gonna get someone. Whether they like it or not, it just might be the one girl who can scare him and make him melt (Haha, cheese much?). FMA isn't just about how badass Ed is oh how action-y a chapter is. it's about the characters and plot and development.

But yeah... just wow. So immature, people trying to be all "deep" and going all "FMA is different and only how I see it, RAWR!"

But no, once a story has romance and thougfht rather than action, IT IS TRASH! :D YUH!

/"pointless drivel"

Okay... done for now... I think.

Well, that was longer than I thought it'd be.
