Love is the thing with feathers
(catch it before it flies away)
Love, Dino remembers reading from some book long forgotten, came when you least expected it. It was like a gentle breeze that turns into a tornado when you aren’t looking, or a bullet wound you don’t notice until it’s too late and you’re already bleeding to death.
He remembers and laughs at the irony, because in his case, the bleeding was literal.

It is two minutes into his first meeting with Hibari Kyouya and his first impression is that Reborn was right (as usual), that this is indeed a problem child of the very worst quality. He chuckles at the thought, and his momentary lapse of concentration costs him two cracked ribs and an ugly bruise on his chin.
His second impression is to never underestimate Kyouya.

When their fight finally ends four hours later and they both sag to the ground, bruised and bloodied, Dino is too busy catching his breath and feeling the adrenaline coursing through him to think of impressions or the odd ways of love. But when he later thinks back on it, he finds the only things he can remember are the sky reflecting from Kyouya’s eyes and the contrast of bright crimson against the white of his cheeks.
And, Dino muses, no matter how many of their fights he has won over the years, that was one battle he lost before it had even begun.
