So I'm watching Captain Planet as I'm wont to do these days (as I may have mentioned we got DVR so now I just tape anything which is amazing, and of course we get higher channels that have old cartoons shows and nickelodean shows on them which is awesome) . I must say though that first of all when I was a kid I did not realize how IN YOUR FACE Captain Planet really is with their "messages." Of course those kind of things a kid doesn't really notice. And I can't really remember actually liking this show. I mean I watched it but I think most of the time we just mocked it anyways. But anyways I'm watching this show and it is semi disturbing because this show is suppose to be so Politically Correct with the kids from all over the world coming together to save the world. But at the same time all the characters are totally sterotypical which kind of defeats the purpose of having them all. Also, its interesting because there is a difference between was was "okay to mock" and what was off limits then and what is now and how much that has changed in a short period of time. When this show was made it was trying to be careful of negatively portraying certain races as better than others and even though the sterotypes that are in the show kind of defeat that the intention is good. But at the same time they seem to not give any consideration homosexual people or language portraying that. In the episode I am watching they had this battle between the "Earth Destroyer" and the "Planet Pansy" and of course the the Destroy was huge and beastly and very masculine while the pansy was an smaller man who was obviously more feminine, who couldn't stand up to fight and always ran away. The show contains no sensitivity to the issue of homosexuals at all while it heavily is careful of other social issues. It is just interesting to see the time change and to see a show that was consciously trying to be Politically Correct and unoffensive but watching it fail miserably at that.
I'm pretty pumped because I talked to Jason Roy (from Relapse) a few days agao and they will be back in cities in February so anyone that didn't go (thats means almost ALL of you! hehe) will have to come see them then! And we should have a party while they are in town. Also, if anyone knows of local bars that have bands play at them let me know. Also, I get to see them play the day after thanksgiving at the Intersection (any michigan kids that want to go let me know) I'm totally excited to see the whole band again!
