Jay looked around the gym at his team. He never figured he'd be as possessive of his team as the rest of the Bats were of their teams. But something about them, their friendship, and maybe even love in the case of Joe… Jay didn't get it really. He did like it though, and it had made him stop and think about what Donna had told him. He hadn't been sure about leaving his team, even though he wasn't their leader, like a Robin usually was. They were a team and each had their own purpose. Which worked better for him really. He didn't like being leader.
Rose was laying, sprawled out like a cat on the mats, while Mia was sitting side saddle style on the balance beam. Joe was sitting Indian style near Rose's head, while Jay rested his head on Joe's knee. Joe's hand was carding through Jay's hair. They'd finished their sparring, but hadn't felt like breaking up so soon. They'd missed their usual sparring with the annoyingness of the whole Amazonian war. Jay felt bad for Cassie. Everything had gone to hell in a hand basket and now more than half the heroing community thought she was off her rockers.
"I could have taken that girl over my knee and paddled her," Rose fumed. "Didn't do any research, didn't consider that it fucking well could have been a trap…Just wah…my life is too hard… I'm going to fucking well go join a women's shelter that has fucking Harley the Joker's girlfriend Quinn as its leader. And not think that it might be a fucking trap!" She stood up and started punching the punching bag hard. "Didn't even stop to consult the older ladies. Just up and decided to be an idiot."
"Some people don't think clearly," Joe observed. "Especially when they're depressed." He watched, slightly amused at Rose's abuse of the poor punching bag. It was probably good that all Titan punching bags were reinforced so they wouldn't break when one of the powered folks decided to go after it. Otherwise they'd spend as much on punching bags as they did on food.
"There's being depressed, and there's being fucking stupid," Rose retorted. "She was lucky Mother's girls could get a hold of me for once, and I could rescue her stupid ass."
"Couldn't they have done so?" Joe asked curiously. He shifted around to let Jay's head rest in his lap. Jay had a hard, bony head, that was getting uncomfortable on his knee. Jay blinked up lazily at him. He'd have to tell his group what Donna had told him and the fact he'd have to go on leave to travel to different planets, so they could keep the world from ending and find a man who could shrink down to an atom…he'd heard of needle in a haystack, but this was getting ridiculous. He and his brother’s sister, and a Monitor, on fifty-two freaking worlds…Jay was pretty sure he'd prefer to be shot repeated at short range. Donna was as much a goody two-shoes as Dick used to be.
"They don't have the resources as I do," Rose replied. "Plus, they were busy with paying jobs. And it wouldn't have been a sound economic decision, or business one."
"The only reason they called us in was because ethically, they couldn't just let the girl hang herself," Mia explained. "Wouldn't be right."
"True, it wouldn't," Jay agreed. He unwillingly sat up. "Guys…"
"And girls," Mia reminded him.
"Whatever." Jay sighed and shook his head. "I've got to go on a stupid mission with Troia."
"Why?" Rose asked. "What does the goody two-shoes want with you?" She scowled protectively.
"Apparently we're supposed to help save the multiverse." Jay rolled his eyes.
"Why?" Mia questioned. "Why you? Not why save the multiverse."
"Because we're supposed to be dead," Jay answered.
"So's Joe," Rose reminded him. "And you're alive now. So why do they care?"
"Don't know." Jay shrugged. "Maybe they need a former Robin…though if that's all they needed, I'd've suggested either of the other ones."
"Is it dangerous?" Mia questioned.
"We're looking for a guy who can turn as small as an atom, on fifty-two different planets." Jay rolled his eyes. "I hope they have some better idea then just searching every atom on every world."
"Try planet forty-two first," Joe suggested.
"We'll make sure to do that." Jay hugged Joe.
"So when do you leave?" Rose asked.
"Not until tomorrow morning," Jay replied. "I heard we're waiting for one more person."
"Who?" Mia wondered. "The only person I know of who's coming in soon is Kyle. He called Connor."
"Great, green idiot to join the fun." Jay scowled. "And he and Donna dated before right?"
"Yes." Rose rolled her eyes.
"So Donna gets to bring her former boyfriend, but I don't get to bring my boyfriend." Jay glared. "Freaking elitist super heroed idiots. Joe's power is far more useful anyway."
"Maybe it's 'cause Kyle's not gone evil?" Rose offered.
"Yes he has," Mia contradicted.
"Don't evil Green Lanterns usually try to massacre the Green Lantern Corp and earth and reality as we know it?" Rose questioned.
"Well, he tried to kill the GL Corp," Mia replied. "And he did have the yellow bug of fear…"
"Great." Jay groaned and banged his head against the wall. "A newly reformed, regretful hero who knows he's done wrong and will take it as a chance to get preachy and pious and forget to think about his actions."
"Maybe you'll find him right away?" Joe offered.
"If it lasts more than twenty-six worlds I'll probably wind up shooting one of them." Jay wrapped his arms around Joe.
"Shoot Donna," Mia advised. "Connor'll get pissed if you shoot Kyle and he's one of the best martial artists in the world."
"I'll take that into consideration," Jay promised.
"Good night, ladies." Joe stood up offering his hand to help Jay up. "If you're leaving tomorrow, we have some things to do before you leave."
