Title: Take your Daughter to Work
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Don’t own, wish I did
Characters: Roy, Lian
Spoilers: JLA 12 a smidge
Summary: Lian’s grumpy, Roy makes it better

Lian stared grumpily out the window. Why’d it have to rain for three whole days? She wanted to go to the park, or out back but her stupid ear infection made her daddy not want her to be out in the rain. The stupid ear infection was all gone. Her daddy was just being mean and making her take the yucky white medicine. The mean new doctor didn’t ‘scribe her the good pink stuff. Icky chalk tasting medicine. She didn’t even like the taste of chalk when it was chalk. It was nasty and gross and she didn’t want to take it now that she was all better, but her daddy was making her.

“Lian! Lunch time,” Roy called, arranging the ‘arrowhead’ PB&J sandwiches on her plate, with carrots for shafts. He sighed as Lian sulked her way into the room. This rain wasn’t letting up. He liked it because it kept the criminals inside, and made his job a bit easier. Harder with the firing arrows, but easier since he didn’t have to that much.

“PB&J again?” Lian huffed, slamming down her booster seat onto her chair, and climbing up into it, with a pout. “I don’t want PB&J. I want Ham and Cheese. And I want celery, not stupid carrots.”

“You said you wanted peanut butter and jelly,” Roy sighed.

“I changed my mind.” She crossed her arms and glared. “PB&J is yucky. And carrots are gross.”

Roy sighed, recognizing the obstinate look on her face. Why did she have to inherit that from him? He understood she was in a bad mood because she couldn’t go out and play, but he had monitor duty after naptime, and he wanted to catch a little sleep himself during naptime. His head was pounding, and Lian had been throwing fits all morning. Nothing was right or even good enough.

“Lian, honey, if you eat your lunch, I’ll see if Aunt Dinah will let you come to work with me,” Roy finally offered. He didn’t resort to bribery often, but he didn’t want to make new sandwiches and he did want a return of his daughter, not this angry, whiny creature. Also, Omar had called in sick, so he’d needed something to do with Lian while he was at work.

“Really?” Lian asked suspiciously.

“Really,” Roy confirmed. “If you eat your lunch, and can be a nice girl, I’ll ask Dinah if I can take you to work with me.”

“To the JLA?” Lian frowned.

“Yes,” Roy nodded.

“It’s not the Titans, but okay,” Lian agreed. “I miss Uncle Garth. He’d let me and Cere play in the rain.”

“I miss them too honey,” Roy replied softly. Lian stared down at her plate. “Are the JLA people like the Titans? Will they like me?”

“They’re not the Titans, but they’ll love you, sweetie,” Roy said confidently. “And you already know some of them. Like Batman, and Superman. And your Uncle Hal and Aunt Dinah, of course.”

“Uncle Batman and Uncle Superman are okay,” Lian finished eating her carrots and sandwich. “Can I wear my Speedy outfit?”

“Of course,” Roy laughed. “Can’t go to the Tower without a superhero uniform!”

“And the mask? With real adhesive and ev’r’thing?” Lian bounced.

“Yes,” Roy agreed.

“Thank you Daddy!” She hugged Roy tightly, and ran to her room, looking for her outfit. Roy called Dinah and explained what was going on, and got permission to take her to the Watchtower. Dinah laughed at him and agreed to let her favorite niece come visit.

“Ready pumpkin?” Roy asked.

“All ready,” Lian nodded uncertainly. “They’re gonna like me?”

“They’ll love you, etai yazi,” Roy promised. Lian hesitantly stuck her hand in his as they entered the teleporter.
