Well, it happened again. America voted for the worst. Instead of the best singer, the almost one million American Idol votes chose the lesser talent.
Why? I think there's just one reason. America just wasn't ready for the metrosexual, nonmainstream Adam. They still want their Idol to look like the fresh faced boy next door. One that doesn't paint his fingernails. Even if he doesn't have anywhere near the talent of his competitor.
The rumors-- if you can believe Beliefnet-- are that Conservative churches organized their youth groups and older members to get the "straight" vote out.
Possibly. Although I have a hard time thinking that American Idol is that important in American Culture for churches to worry much about. But then again, the purple teletubby was important enough for Liberty Baptist Church to warn the world of the homosexual propoganda that the bag carrying purple teletuby was allegedly preaching to the young, unprotected minds of America's children.
Yes, Adam is gay. We know this to be true because of the photos of him kissing other men, even though he never actually "came out" on A.I.'s program. He also appeals to young women as well, since he is handsome and talented. YES, TALENTED. But America voted, and it was the lesser talented Chris, and not Adam, who will be this year's Idol of '09.
Even Chris knew this. As he was being proclaimed the winner, Chris said, "Adam's the one who really deserves this". But American Idol isn't really a singing contest-- its a popularity contest, pure and simple.
And so it goes. But I think it won't be long until the homophobia of our culture will soon become the minority, as all polls indicate that the younger generations are much more tolerant of same-sex orientation than the old farts. May time-- and talent-- keep marching on.
