I know it's been a really long time since I've posted. Being pregnant and then having a baby will do that for you.
I'm in a bit of a situation here, and I'm calling on my animal loving friends to help. A year and a half ago, we vetted an injured cat- he had to be hospitalized twice. We did it based on promises of help from several sources (all local, not LJ people)- that bailed on us. We are STILL paying off the bill- month by month. It was well over a thousand dollars.
I am disabled. Jim cannot find ANYONE willing to hire him- because he's in pain management. We live off about a thousand dollars a month from my disability. I generally have to ask my mother for help paying bills. So- we're not equipped to do a whole lot right now.
We've continued to scrape together money to feed the dumped cats in our parking lot- and we've been turned down consistently by all of the rescues in town- when we've asked for help in placing the cats. The people that run rescues in this town are an elite bunch of women that have nothing but time and money on their hands- and no help for anyone but their own friends- or friends of friends- who were generally too freaking lazy to spay/neuter their pet in the first place. It's ridiculous. And the "shelters" here have exceedingly high kill rates- even the new one that opened under the promise that it would only kill animals they could not help. The people that donated money would be horrified to see what is going on there.
But, I digress. I have a friend that has a kitty who is parked on her doorstep. She has 3 toddlers and several dogs, and a husband allergic to cats. She does not want to take the cat to a shelter- but she is running out of options- as she cannot keep it- and she cannot get it to leave.
I'd asked someone for help, and they'd planned to spay/neuter and release the pet. Well, naturally, the person they talked to about it backed down- so now this cat is headed for a shelter if I cannot help. I cannot afford the vetting for the cat, on top of the cost of feeding ten or more cats that have been dumped in are parking lot. Sure, I could quit feeding them all- but these guys need help. They can't help that they were dumped.
I'll have photos soon. If anyone would like to adopt or sponsor the care of one of these cats, please let me know. I have a paypal button below.
And, since it is clear that we will never be out of the rescue business, come one child or ten- Jim is about to begin driving on paid transports all along the east coast of the US. They'll drive in a cargo van and haul up to 20 animals at a time to rescues in the North (they love taking animals). Kind of funny that he's volunteering to help these guys- but they offer us NO help whatsoever. But, anyway- he's doing a good deed- so more karma points for him.
These transports will have him gone 2 or more weekends a month- leaving me to care for Dan solo. I'm disabled (not to belabor the point), and have had rebound medical problems post delivery- so it's likely that I'll stay with my parents on those weekends- though it concerns me- because the animals need to be fed. I don't know. We'll figure it out.
At the end of this ramble- I'll state- the point of this post is- I've been effed over, yet again by people claiming to want to help financially with animals. We're almost out of the hole with the vet, but we need help with the critters outside, and the ones indoors that we're trying to place, as well as the one that showed up at a friend's house- that I am trying to keep out of a shelter.
If anyone can help- even a little- please do. It would mean the world to us. These animals don't deserve the treatment they've received by careless humans. Please be one of the good guys and lend a hand- if you can.
As always, I appreciate all of your kind words, and help. My best to you all.
