This law has already taken affect in TX and the end result is that the rate of women coming back for their appointments 24 hrs following the u/s is exactly the same as the rate of women showing up after making initial appointments before the u/s was required. BUT those women are now pissed because their judgment is being questioned and they have to make, show up for, and pay for 2 appointments instead of one.

I just can't get over the imagery of "we're going to shove something inside you to SHOW YOU what you've done". They've been attempting to frame this as caring about women, informed consent, yada, yada. But it all boils down to "this is what you've done. Now you have to pay the price for it." The lawsuit over it didn't even cover this part. It was brought about because docs could lose their medical license if they didn't follow specific wording. The women involved have been completely forgotten.

To add insult to injury I've been hearing more and more about doctors refusing to do D&Cs or D&Es at all. And many pharmacies refuse to dispense mifepristone. They just send their patients to Planned Parenthood. Imagine having to go through this for a miscarriage. Thankfully friends of mine went before the law took effect, entering the clinic through the screaming protesters. But what about next time?

Finally the one thing that is drilled into us in every medical ethics class is this: "Consent given under duress is not consent." Exactly as Hines stated it. Saying do this or you won't get your abortion, specifically when "this" isn't necessary for the procedure, is coercion and is highly unethical.
