Grading Hell Theater: First Day of School

Sep 01, 2009 09:11

Okay, so I don't really have a lot of grading to do yet, but I need some distraction this morning. So, today on Grading Hell Theater:

Your favorite characters. The first day of school.* Discuss.

Gabi and Miles grew up on Sesame Street, and so looked forward to the first day of school. Chris, however, did not, and it really wasn't until college that he began to appreciate the appeal of new notebooks waiting to be filled (Alan figured out that he preferred ProForm, which has since gone out of business, and managed to track down a few boxes from other stores), new pens to be tried, new (to him) books to be cracked. He does sometimes find studying a challenge, though, with all the demands that he read, or judge Bird Games, or cheerlead. This year, a new pair of shoes appeared in his room the night before his first classes. They fit perfectly.

There's something about the first stirrings of fall that still puts Jessica Fletcher in a fine, hopeful mood. She gets her best writing done that time of year.

Your turn!

*You can interpret "school" as broadly or as narrowly as you choose. It need not, of course, be the characters themselves who are going to school.
