Grading Hell Theater: Second Favorite Thing in the Universe

Inspired by thinking about Babylon 5. If you've never watched the show, Garibaldi spends much of the first episode trying to find someone to share his second favorite thing in the universe (his favorite being obvious). This turns out to be watching Daffy Duck cartoons ( Read more... )

Chloe Sullivan's second favourite is coffee. Plain brewed coffee from the diner down the street from Isis Foundation. After sugary faux-Starbucks drinks all through high school at teh talon, she has found a new appreciation for an incredibly fresh hot brewed cup of coffee with cream, no sugar. It reminds her why she started drinking coffee in the first place, over the Daily Planet with her dad on Sunday mornings, after her mom left them. (Her first favourite thing is the once a week Sunday phonecall with Gabe).

The Middleman's second favourite thing is filing paperwork. No, really. He likes seeing the stack of blank pages fill up with detailed written reports. he likes seeing the Middlelore gain volumes. he likes knowing that after he's gone, everything will be neat and tidy and thorough, and that Wendy and every Middleman after her will still have something of his, after he's taught her and learned from her everything he can. (His first favourite thing is ice-cold milk and a slice of pie, every fourth Thursday.)

The Doctor's second favourite thing is the look on their faces, the first time they step through that door into the unknown. He can't feel that any longer, the way they feel that. So he feels it vicariously through them, and mimics it as best he can. But it's a ghost to him, so he holds onto how real it is for them. Especially the very first time. (His first favourite thing is the sight of the TARDIS, waiting for him exactly where she left him.)

Robert Parks' second favourite thing is reading. He can disappear in a crowded servants hall into a book, and even if he's cheek-by-jowl with chauffeurs, valets, ladies maids, and hallboys, inside his head, it's just the worlds on the pages. Robinson Crusoe, The Count of Monte Cristo, cheap pulps and penny dreadfuls. Doesn't matter. It gives him a chance to carve out space for himself, in a life where he's never given any. (His first favourite thing is the way the knife slides between his father's ribs.)

Hardison's second favourite thing is when Nate stations him and Parker out in the van for surveillence. He tried at one point to teach her the basics of WoW, just like she tried to get him comfortable hanging upside down in a zipline. But in the end they'd rather be who they are together. And sometimes that involves making out while Sophie, Nate, and Eliot are off doing their thing. And even when Parker's in his lap, and his hands are under her shirt, Hardison always monitors the comms, and Parker always has a secondary track of her brain working on how she'd get in/get it/get out, and that's okay too. (His first favourite thing is when he gets behind the very last firewall, and it's all there, waiting for him.)

Jake Foley's second favourite thing is watching Diane when she doesn't realise he's watching her. The way she plays with the chunky pendants and rings she always wears. Or how he forgets she has her nose pierced until the little diamond stud catches the light sometimes. And he especially likes those moments when she catches him looking, and starts to blush, and pretends she isn't, but the nanites tell him she's lying. (His first favourite is, and will always be, Diane wearing his button-down shirt and nothing else).

Abby Sciuto's second favourite is dancing. She goes out two nights a week at least and dances until her clotehs are soaked through with sweat and she's made out with people on the dancefloor that she's never taken home because that's not what it's about. But just feeling the bass rumble up through the floor into her bones is a pleasure that never ever gets old. (Her first favourite is when Gibbs kisses her on the cheek and tells he "Good job".)

Gibbs' second favourite thing is going down on a woman. The noises she makes, the flush that spreads over her entire body, and just knowing that she knows for the space between foreplay and afterglow, that she's beautiful and alive and desirable and his. (His first favourite is the smell of sawdust and the feel of the wood under his fingers.)

Stormer's second favourite is ice-cream. Everything from two scoops on a sugar cone in the dead of summer where it melts almost faster than you can eat it, to ginormous sundaes with every topping known to man, to cheap Drumsticks you'd get from sidewalk vendors that randomly show up trolling your neighbourhood with little bells attached to the rolling carts. (Her first favourite thing is that moment when the new song finally clicks).

(LJ cut me off, cos, erm... twas too long)
