Cashing in the love

I find myself in need of some cheering at the mo', and it seems everywhere I turn is something that makes me cranky. I find myself in need of some good ol' fannish love ( Read more... )

He's emotionally repressed. He deals with trauma by cracking jokes, right up to the point where it's all too much and he's either going to burst into tears or rip somebody's head off. Or both.

He loves his family but never actually says anything about it. Instead, he looks after them and protects them and still manages to believe that they can look after themselves. No matter how hard he works to make himself indispensable, he can't believe that his family actually needs him.

Also, he makes his living by hustling pool, playing poker and defrauding credit card companies. And he has kick-ass taste in music.

Oh, Dean! I love Dean because he is a clam masquerading as an anti-clam (which seems to be a character type I'm attracted to more and more). He will talk and talk and talk, without ever actually telling you anything about himself, so that when he finally does (lip tremble!), you can't help but want to make it all better.

No matter how hard he works to make himself indispensable, he can't believe that his family actually needs him.

NGH. Possibly, I have a type, yeah.

I love Will Turner!

He's a nice guy who just wants to love the girl! What's so bad about that? He risks his life to help other people, even when they don't deserve it, Jack. And! He looks really, really hot, even when he's wearing a goofy hat with a big feather in it.

He also doesn't complain when people hate on him for being pretty or nice. He deserves props for that, too. He can shiver my timber any day. For reals!

And I don't have any Orli icons! This must be remedied!

I adore Will, for all the reasons you list. Also, because he's not above a little underhandedness when the situation calls for it.

Yes! He's not a choir boy or anything. Plus? He brings the dry wit, which I always adore. Without the "straight" *snicker* man, Captain Jack wouldn't be nearly as amusing as he is! Long live Will Turner! Woo!

I am in a happy place of love right now as regards Lord Peter Wimsey. I like Lady Peter née Harriet Vane very much, as well, but for the moment I love him best, and I'll tell you why: because the first time I ran into him was in Gaudy Night. He had been so patiently in love with Harriet for so long, bless him, and he didn't whine or fuss about it, or actually even pursue her much -- he carried on being her friend, and probably even got more or less used to the idea that he might never get to be anything else, and he barely even ever reminded her that he loved her when she wasn't expecting it. Which, you know. Me being me, that sort of thing (as if a person couldn't tell from the way I wrote Mercutio and Lord Andrew Lindsay, if a person noticed the way I wrote them) rings what you might call a particularly resonant chord. Yes.

Oooh, Gaudy Night. I shall tell you why I love Harriet, actually. I love her because she doesn't fall head over heels for Peter right away. I love her because she takes time to heal and tend to her own life. I love her because she doesn't let proper feeling stop her from doing her proper job, and because she'll actually tell you what she thinks. And because when she finally does fall, she falls hard.

Oh, gosh, yes. If any of those things were not true, I wouldn't like her nearly as much as I do. But, as I say, you know, resonance, and all that. :-) (The reason it's a happy place of love rather than a melancholy one is that, of course, ultimately, he wins.)

Kon! I love Kon because he was so, so 90's when he first appeared. I love Kon because his momma was a test tube, but thinks like more of a normal teenage boy than Tim. I love Kon because he just wants Superman to like him. I love Kon because as much of a horndog as he is, he makes *friends* with girls and just likes being around them. I love Kon because he gets detention for skipping class. I love Kon because he threw a party in the Fortress of Paradise when Superman and Batman were out of town. I love Kon because he can really be an asshole sometimes, but his heart is always in the right place ( ... )

There can never been too much Dick-love in the world. If only so I have an excuse to say things like that.

Yes. His name would be another reason I love him. :)

I love Castillo because he's honest. He's got a serious code of honor which he will not break. He's not a big man, but he knows his own abilities, and knows he doesn't have to prove them to anyone. I love that he can attack someone when needed with one hand in his pocket.

I love that he and Sonny have this insanely intense trust and communication thing going on most of the time. I love that once you are one of his people, he will fight to the death for you. I love that he would totally go to the mat for Sonny in particular. I love that Sonny is not only one of the few people who he would let in, but one of the few people not so afraid of him that he would actually approach Castillo in the first place.

I love that Castillo is a dwarf star of intensity and cow a man at 50 paces with just a look. *g*

You have to admit, it's impressive how much he can convey by not saying or doing anything at all. Maybe we need to add him to the Batman/Jack Bristow Clam Cage-Match.

Oh, man. He and Batman would turn to stone as they glare at each other across the ring.
