Supernatural: The Benders

Haven't seen House yet, which you can blame on my marriage. See, the Other Half doesn't like House (I know, I know), but does like Supernatural, which dictates the watch vs torrent order, so to speak.

On that note, some rambling about "The Benders."

Okay, for me? The actual highlight of the episode was Dean choosing Sam to be hunted.

No, no, hear me out.

One of my bone-deep kinks is trust. And the thing is, the common trope for trust is "I trust you with my life." Except that the characters I tend to be drawn to often have the self-preservation of a housefly (meaning they don't have any and yet somehow stay alive anyway), so trusting someone with their life? Not so much with the meaning there.

On the other hand, trusting someone to do the right thing, even if it means making a choice that puts your own life in danger? And trusting them to handle a situation despite every instinct screaming at you to protect them? Oh, yeah, baby.

And we got both sides of that last night.

Because it was the right thing to choose Sam. Yes, cop-whose-name-escapes-me was a cop and therefore presumably capable of taking care of herself, but let's face it, this was just a little outside her purview, and if it was outside Sam's too, he had experience in similar situations. More to the point, CWNEM was there because Dean brought her into this situation. So it was the right thing to choose Sam, even though you know it had to be the hardest thing Dean could have done.

And also, Dean was trusting Sam to be able to handle himself, if not actually to escape, at least to stay alive long enough for Dean to think of the next thing. That's...oh, yeah, they got me there.
