That's my kid

There's some fraught stuff going on right now, stuff I can't really talk about here, so I think I'm going to talk about my kid instead.

1. When we were at my mother's, she begged and begged for us to watch X-men: DOFP together. She pointed out that the third is coming out soon, and I suspect I have been anointed as the One Who Shall Take Her to See It.

2. After listening to "Pretty Little Dead Girl" on the drive to Cincinnati, she asked if I would read her some of the stories. She seems to understand what's going on, and has expressed interest in reading them herself. Her reading has taken a HUGE jump from this time last year.

3. Also, when Counting Crows on the drive back, she asked me who they were singing about, because it sounded like they were still singing about Rose Marshall (the aforementioned Pretty Little Dead Girl). When she's really into something, her critical thinking is so sharp.

4. She also saw me watching an episode of Criminal Minds, and asked to watch one with me. I weighed the issue and decided that I could find one that wasn't TOO horrifying, and she liked it. My mother scolded me for that, but I can only say that I know my daughter. (Also, she said she would not have let me watch it at that age, which is total bullshit. I have memories of some very violent, dark TV movies that I was allowed to watch.)

5. She spent much of the weekend making up pun-based riddles, testing them out on me. I did have to tell her that some of them were not really funny, but she took it in total stride, and tried to think of others.

Five things make a post, right? Here, have a picture: my little girl reading.
