Leaving this public, because fuck it

...and because I don't think the person in question gets to bitch at me about his posted words being reproduced.

Me: I don't have a problem with saying "these are some steps you should take to minimize your risk, and you should be aware that when another person is involved, there's no such thing as risk-free." But...look, one of the most dangerous things we can do is drive or ride in automobiles. And yet, when some asshole drives drunk and kills some one, the prevailing response is not, "well, what did the dead person expect, driving to the drugstore on a Saturday night?"

Crimes involving sex, and particularly crimes against *women* involving sex, are damn near the only area where we assume that the *default* is being assaulted, violated, or taken advantage of, and if you aren't prepared for that to happen, you just shouldn't step outside your front door. Hell, it's at the point where I was almost *glad* to see Cee Lo Green argue that if a woman is unconscious in a man's vicinity, he has the right to fuck her, because it was so *naked* (pun intended) in its victim-blaming that even people who would usually be tsking at the victim are saying, "Dude, that's messed up." I'd bet that every single person on this thread has given a credit card number over the internet or phone in the last WEEK, to say nothing of the last year, but we don't tell people to own the fact that they have money, of course other people will try to take it, so don't use the internet or a checking account or cash if you're not prepared to have it taken from you. This is what rape culture IS. Should we talk about issues of online security, celebrity "privacy," and other such matters? Hell, yes. But we don't have to tell victims of these crimes, and they ARE crimes, that they have no right to be upset because they shouldn'ta oughtenta done it.

His response: Driving is not an avoidable act. Loading nude pics is.

Right. Because that's the salient point, here. Fuck it. Just fuck it all.
