Bankruptcies, fraud investigations and jail time should be the order of the day. Yes, this _might_ cause a global depression, but so might increasing our deficit by a factor of two. What nation is going to buy US bonds to finance this bailout? The boneheads who hid bad debt in complicated bonds, and the dupes who bought them need to suffer the consequences. The rest of us are going to suffer for it regardless, but coddling the perps is simply wrong.
