So, for the entire week, spreak break was in session for me. I decided to live the life, and meet a true spring break idea-go to Florida.
Monday we left CNU at 10:30, and after a rather non-eventful trip (aside from the amazing city of Savannah that we stopped in for dinner, and a few "wrong-turns" ending us up at the wrong days inn 100 miles away from where we were meant to go), we arrived at our hotel at 2:30 in the morning.
The next day we all over slept, but it was a given and we managed to get seats at the ball game (at dodgertown!) and watched the Dodgers beat the Florida Marlins. Leaving that park, I realized that sunblock must be put on a body part for it to work. My legs were completely red, as well as a racoon type thing going on around my eyes. We were all fairly tired, and went back to the room and just hung out for a couple of hours before sleep came on.
Now, about sleeping in this hotel. We had four guys with us. There were 2 beds and a couch(!) with a pull out bed. This meant that two of us would have to sleep together. Joe decided that my bed looked the best, and hopped on in (yes it was my bed, I got there first!). So, these are double beds, and extending an arm from one side of the bed will reach quite far onto the otherside of the bed-thus making sleeping with a guy next to you quite an art. Joe is a great drummer, so good and studous in fact, that he plays in his sleep-hands beating the drums, and mouth giving a beat. On top of that, it causes one to think twice about whether he/she has been living in a straight dream when you open your eyes, only to see that your same-sex roommate is sleeping with his/her face no more than three inches away from your own.
Sleeping trama aside, the next day (wednesday) was another baseball game, the mets vs. some team that does not merit a place in my memory. This game we managed to scalp...buy some tickets in a lovely shaded area behind home plate, for a small price more than we would have been able to get seats on bleachers in the sun. This was a break for my poor skin to repair from the day before, and it used this wisely. We then went to a sports bar, where they sold dolphin, something I did not know was a food. While tempting to see how a fellow intelectual tasted, I went with the chili instead. The day ended much the same as before-except this time I managed to watch the 2-hour special of american idol. America, I have found the cause of our increasing stupdity (this did not stop me from seeing who was eliminated the next day!).
The next day was thursday, or as I like to call it, the most dreaded beach day. We only stayed for a couple of hours as we were trying to make it to a game, but during that time I learned a few things. First, sunblock does in fact work as long as you apply it correctly (the red spots on my skin with a fingerprint in the middle is evidence toward this. Second, water rarely mimics outdoor air temperature as well as it should. Just because it is 85 degrees outside does not mean that the water is an intelligent thing to go running into-several times. Thrid and finally, frisbies on an extremely windy day are not always the best option.
We did make the game, a Nats-Marlins game that started at 7. Again a break for my skin after a long day on the beach (which did not burn me where I put lotion). The game was rather uneventful, and was easily the most boring of the four we saw.
Friday, we made preparations to leave by 11-our game was an hour and a half south of us, we had to check out by 11, and our stay in FL was done when the game was complete. This game was brutal, the hotest day we were there, and we were sitting in the sun on bleachers. The reflection alone was killer. Somehow I managed not to get burnt despite not using as much sunblock as I have been. After that game was over, we went to the parking lot, ate some food, tossed the ball around for a half an hour to let the parking lot trafic subside, and began our trip-at 4:30PM.
The trip started off well, Sean began driving, but 2 hours later switched it over to Joe at the gas station. We made it into the middle of Georgia before Joe needed to switch up, at which point I picked up. I drove about 200 miles when I needed to get fuel. Josh decided to pick up the next strech, and by no means am I one to stop him. In NC, everything got interesting.
About halfway through we stopped at a Waffle House (this is around 4-5AM)for some food and drink. We were all exhausted-non of us really able to sleep well in the car. Our trip began again 20 minutes later with Sean behind the wheel. Little did we know, but he was tired as hell. After entering VA, he started to see things, and would suddenly slow down for no reason. Also, to allow him to stop, he sped up outrageously and then slowed down to burn down the gas or to get pulled over-both seemed like good options to him. Once we made it to 295 though he snapped back-probably with the proximity of home. The rest of the trip was somewhat uneventful-2 wrongway turns down 1 way roads, and 1 poor rabbit was all that really applies as eventful.
We got in at 7:15ish, and I managed to finally lay down at 7:50 to sleep. Bryant called me at 11:50ish to pick him up at the train station, which I did-throwing on a pair of shorts, and undershirt, shoes, and walking out to my car. I smelled bad, and my hair was crazy. Bryant could do nothing but laugh at me when he saw me. I came back after that and took a shower, and then wrote this longass sonofabitch-which only made me want to go back to sleep.
So that was my spring break in all its glory. Florida, sun, beach, baseball, long road trips with guys, and false non-sticky advertising on sunblock.
