Tengriism: Mongolian Shamanism, and the Shamanism of nations descended of Mongolians

Dec 15, 2009 14:19

These are various webpages which discuss Tengriism. I put them here for anyone who has an initial interest in reading about it, before considering more academic research of it. I've had an interest in Shamanism for most of my life, but only started to discuss it with other people from 1996-forward (mainly in newsgroups and other forums). I dropped the discussions sometime around 2001, but continued to research Shamanism by talking to local Native people who believe in or are otherwise educated with regards to North American Indian varieties of Shamanism and spirituality. It was important to me as a person of Aboriginal descent to learn about the traditional beliefs of the peoples of the prairies, even if my ancestry hails from the Quebec Valley.

The curiousity towards the shamanic forms of the Hungarian, Turkish, and Mongolian peoples, however, did not leave me. I had merely given up the search finding that access to the materials I needed to engage with were not so readily available, and there was a great deal of speculation and New Age fanatacism in its place. I've since decided, with my recognition that it is time to finally go to university, that I should think strongly toward what it is that I would like to major in after my first or second year. I might choose to combine studies in psychology and social anthropology, though I do have a strong interest as well in criminology. All of these things have been deeply drawing to me since I was a child.

At any rate, for some basic learning today, you have the following that you can peruse and then if it interests you further, you can seek something more academic out. I will let you all know which materials those would be when I have found them. :)
