It was stupid. Jake acknowledges that.

It’s not even like he’s actually part of the United States military. Neither is Hawkins, when it comes to that, but it’s pretty obvious which one of the two - between Jake and Hawkins - is better at this sort of thing.

That didn’t stop Jake, of course.

Now that the battle is over, the soldiers captured or dead, the encrypted radio acquired, thanks to Jake’s fast action - good god, that could have gone badly.

Jake sits down hard, against a tree, shaking.

Footsteps shift the gravel next to him - calm, measured, even. Has to be Hawkins.

“That was foolish, Jake.”

“It worked, didn’t it?” They have the radio. Jake isn’t dead.

Jake doesn’t even see Hawkins move. The first he realizes is when Hawkins grabs the front of his jacket, hauls him to his feet, and - despite Jake’s belated protest - slams him into the tree.

Jake tends to forget how strong Hawkins really is.

“Next time you walk into an enemy camp,” and Hawkins’ voice doesn’t even betray the emotion he must be feeling, he doesn’t do ( ... )

Oh, I love this! Jake's recklessness balanced with Hawkins's calm control, both in the operation and the kiss. So perfect :-)

Oh man, I hate second person POV, and I adored this. It's delicious.

I am, as you know, woefully behind on the Prison Break continuity, but I know enough. And having recently become addicted to Eleventh Hour *coughyour faultcough*, I read this, and I LOVE this!

...I wanna know what happens next. Does that make me a bad person?

I don't know Eleventh Hour, but Jacob sound fascinating! I love the way that Alex is threaded throughout this, a constant backdrop to Michael's thoughts, and that he is drawn to Jacob because that's who he reminds Michael of.

He left them a long time ago, and no doubt Sara is happier for it.

So sad, but the use of the word 'them' makes me think of Alex & Sara still together, which also makes me squee a little :-)

Awesome!

The man sat crosslegged on the dingy grey floor, eyes closed and apparently oblivious to his surroundings. He looked peaceful. Happy, even.

Harmless.

But Bennet had seen, had been there. If anything, isolation on Level 5 wasn't secure enoughBut it was hard to reconcile that hulking green creature with the slim man in the cell, scrub pants riding low on his hips; the sharp jut of bone just slightly visible as he breathed. In and out. In and out ( ... )

You kept saying this was bad! Bull. This was awesome. Because Bruce just doesn't fit into the paradigm of people with abilities.

I loved it :)

Thanks! I dunno, I just felt like Bennet was a little bit over-the-top touchy. Rereading it, I like it more than I did when I posted.

Thanks again! Means a lot. ^_^

AU from the end of "Angels and Monsters"

It was all a trick; no, that sounded like something they’d do together, on purpose. It was all a lie. A lie like the scar on his chest that Adam dug his nails into, because it couldn’t be real.

“Ichiban tomodachi darou ne?” Adam whispered against his chest, reminding him he was Kensei Takezo, the great hero, he laughed, they had heard about as boys.

Ando reached up to bury his hands in the yellow-as-sun blond hair and pull him up, their sweaty bodies sliding against each other easily, into a deep kiss. Adam tasted of dirt and blood and long darkness, which he figured tasted a lot like fallen heroes.

There were a lot of ways the most loyal of friends, sidekicks, could think of to be a hero himself. What he whispered into the skin of the man clinging to him like he’d been without human contact for decades was, “Mirai ga kawareru.”

Translations:

Ichiban tomodachi darou ne? Best friends, right?

Mirai ga kawareru I can change the future.
