I'm very sorry for the rare posting, lately. I've had a lot on my plate; besides that, I'm working on a couple long fics that may or may not end up being worth it.
Anyhow, that's not what this post is about.
Undoubtedly, by this point, all of you have heard that the Writer's Guild of America is striking. A lot of people in fandom are a little pissed off about this - mostly, because hey now, their favorite tv shows are gonna go off the air. Probably around January. Some will be vanishing in December; a very few will go on through February. They'll probably be replaced by reality TV programming, and hey, that sucks.
I know a lot of us are crossing our fingers, hoping the strike will end in the next couple of months, before things get really 'serious'. But, really, it just doesn't seem like that's gonna be the case. The WGA keeps tabling their key issues; the MPTA keeps refusing to negotiate.
I'd just like to say that, right now, as a fan and as a writer - I am 100% behind the Writer's Guild strike. These aren't filthy rich, famous people - most of the WGA members have to hold a second job just to stay afloat. This strike isn't a personal affront to the fans; it's a move to get better residual pay. The only move, at this point, that actually seems as though it will be effective.
So, I'd encourage you guys to check out
wga_supporters, the
WGA YouTube account and the opinions on
UnitedHollywood.Com.
In conclusion, this strike won't affect my fic writing. I will, in fact, continue to support all my fandoms. Giving up now would be a betrayal of the driving creative forces behind those shows.
