Amazing Stuff Going On

I'll admit it - I am not a neat and organized person.  Oh, I put on a good front at work (most of the time) but at home, my house is usually a mess.  I'm not talking filthy and attracting bugs or anything, just cluttery and messy.  Generally because I'm too lazy to get off my ass and put things away.

Well, my friend, M. inspired me and while I'm not actually doing what she has done to inspire me, for the past two weeks, my house has remained clean and guest ready for the most part.  And I've been enjoying it!  The clean house feeling.

It all started two weeks ago when just after our "snow storm" my cousin called and said that he, my aunt and my uncle would be bringing over some stuff for us and would be there in a few hours.  OH MY GOD.  When I got off the phone, I went into quiet panic mode.  Brophy heard the conversation, and bless his heart, he got off his video game and proceeded to spend the next two hours cleaning the garage to fit in the riding lawn mower and a few other large items.  I quietly panicked and started cleaning the public rooms of the house.  In two hours, the house was "presentable" and they showed up.  Wouldn't you know it - about 20 minutes after they got there, I received a call (I was on call) and I had to leave.

Since then, I've been slowly getting my "house in order" and its been wonderful.  Keeping it up isn't difficult as long as I make that effort to do the little jobs when presented with them.  Put this dishes in the dishwasher when I'm done with them, put away the items I use while cooking.  Hang up my towel and make my bed.  Clean off my sink counter and re-organize.  And so on and so on.  All these little tasks take next to no time, but if I neglect them, I'm in mess mode and DAMN, its flight of the bumble bee time again for a whole weekend before someone comes to visit.

When Suzy (MIL) came for a visit on Saturday - Do you know, I barely had to do anything to make the house presentable?  Do dished, clear off the coffee table of junk etc....  I went away to knitting knowing that I didn't have to worry about a thing.  And today, I invited
reikimaster for dinner at my house on Thursday.  Yes, that's right, a guest in the middle of the week!  Unheard of previously!!!  I would have had to plan it for a Saturday or Sunday just to give me time to get the house ready.  But now, my house is ready!!!

This feeling is just intoxicating!!!

Just think - the sad thing is it took me 37.9 years to figure this out.  (Yes, I'm going to be 38 soon and I am not at all worried about it, but that is another post for another day.
