For Christmas this year, I knit my husband a scarf and a hat in Caron Simply Soft Shadows in this really neat red. The hat was just the right size and something I just kind of made up as I went along. It turned out great. The scarf was very nice in a simple (yet in someways complicated pattern). However, the scarf was really too short for him, but he has enjoyed it and has worn it often since (especially when he was in Chicago at the beginning of February (brrr). I don't have a completed picture of it, because I had to wrap it up to put under the tree. I absolutely love how this yarn gradiates in
color.
Well one day (before Chicago) he asked me to do another scarf for him, this time longer. After I picked myself up off the floor, I started pouring through my stitch books to find a nice pattern that would do for a man. I also asked him what color would he like.
So I chose the blue color from the Caron Shadows yarn and went to town. I settled on this really neat ribbed pattern that I call the Double Rib. Let me tell you, this is an easy pattern. The only thing you really have to know is which set you are working in because the only difference between the two sets is a purl row vs a knit row.
Let me tell you, I am so pleased with the way this turned out. Its about 70" long and it is just the right size for him. Its warm, soft, washable and the pattern is just cool. It wasn't hard to do and didn't cost much either. It was also the first scarf that I've done without someone else helping me pick the pattern or finding a pattern on a website. I guess you could say I designed it.
So for those knitters out there who like this and want the pattern, see my next post for more details.
