I really should write about this awesome road trip. I've been lazy on the updates mostly because I've been so tired after each day.
In a lot of ways, this trip has had the worst timing ever: gas prices are through the roof, the exchange rate from American to Canadian dollars is the worst it's been in my lifetime, and the weather's been drizzly and damp since we arrived -- not at all common for this time of year. But then, in other ways, the timing has been just right. I got to visit my beloved old elementary school before it shuts down for good next month. My friends are done with CEGEP for the summer, but still haven't all left on their respective summer trips. So yeah, it's not all bad.
Anyway, I guess I'll start at the beginning, and if I don't finish up to present, I'll write more later.
We left Mobile on Friday May 5th at 3:30 PM. We were planning to be gone by 10 AM, but we had a bunch of nasty hold-ups, not the least of which was Duncan spending 3 hours looking for his birth certificate before finding out he could go get a new one printed up in 5 minutes at some nearby office.
Our first stop in North Carolina was fun. Stayed with Derek, a guildmate of mine from World of Warcraft. He made us homemade pizza at 3 AM when we got there and breakfast of bacon and eggs before we left at 11 -- talk about hospitality! Duncan and Jordan were a little leery about staying with someone I only knew from teh internets, but after we left they both agreed that he was a really awesome guy and they were glad to have met him.
Next stop was Fran's dorm at Princeton in New Jersey. Princeton University is absolutely gorgeous. Seems we had horrible timing for Fran though.. she had a huge paper due the next day and I'm afraid we distracted her waay too much. Her meal plan allows for "guest passes" and she was nice enough to let us use three of them for Sunday brunch, which was sooo much better than any cafeteria food at South could ever hope to be. *jealous!*
Soon after that, we left Princeton to head for Allanah's house in Connecticut. Since we'd found out Keera's family couldn't have us there until Keera's dad got back from Switzerland on Thursday, we asked Allanah's parents if we could stay there a few days before departing for Montreal. All was fine, so we did so.
We rented movies, went to the mall, and this really awesome dinosaur store that I would have blown all my money at if I wasn't trying to save it for the rest of the road trip.. we hunted for cool gaming stores and found one really nice one in New London with an awesome variety of geeky stuff. I bought a WWFSMD (what would Flying Spaghetti Monster do?) pin and an Ayumi Hamasaki CD. (My Story classical!) We also went to the Mohegan Sun casino which was full of nifty shops and such...
Meh, I'll finish later. ^^ This is probably too long for most people to bother reading already anyway.
