Wow... I'm amazed at how horrific this hurricane turned out to be. I've only been through one, Ivan, which had just as much hype as Katrina, and although it caused a great deal of property damage, recovery was pretty fast and it was quickly forgotten. People only died from freak accidents or from being too old and practically dead anyway. I was sure this one would be similar...
But the more I hear about Mississippi and Louisiana, the more I realize, this damage we see here in Mobile is practically NOTHING. Oh my, we don't have power and have some raking to do. I even have electricity here at the university, and classes start back the day after tomorrow. Some houses have smushed in roofs, some signs and traffic lights have collasped, some powerlines are down, and some roads are blocked by felled trees... but still, everything will be back to normal in maybe a month or two. New Orleans though... is there still even going to BE a New Orleans? Is the damage so much that they won't even bother to rebuild? So many dead, so many homeless... I can't even imagine.
*shivers*
EVERYONE BE SAFE!!
