We rented some movies tonight that we're going to watch tomorrow... and I'm going to learn to play Othello! When they found out I'd never seen Totoro, (From the director os Spirited Away, etc, I believe? I know you know his name, but I don't,) They insisted that I have to. They were all very entertained by Monoke-hime being called Princess Mononoke in America.
Miyazaki Hayao, nihon-fu (Japanese-style...last-name first, first-name last.) is the name of that director. ^_^ Totoro is very very very cute. It made me cry toward the end though. I'm a sucker for most of his stuff....XD
Tis a board game! I don't believe it's Japanese in origin, but it seems to be very popular here. I know Duncan has read a manga called Othello, and it involved the game.
I really will have to see Totoro then. It seems to be one of the most popular here, as Totoro merchandise seems to be everywhere. Although not as much as Pokemon! GAH I can't believe how much Pokemon junk there still is here.
Definition: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Otaku I do not judge a series based on how cute the girls are or how much fan service is given .......... I just want decent characters and character development.
The term they keep using here in Ueda for Otaku is Akiba kei. Conversation from the other night:
Kaori in French: "Kazoku is Akiba kei you see. Have you seen her manga collection??" Kazoku in Japanese: "Akiba kei? You're Akiba kei!" Kaori in Japanese: "No I'm not!" Kazoku: "Yes you are!" (back and forth, back and forth, then both point at Kazoku's brother,) Both: "Makoto is Akiba kei!!"
