Okay, update for today! I hope you Mobilians will be able to read it, but I have no idea what's going on with this hurricane. I'll have to look up a news report when I'm done typing. EVERYBODY BE SAFE

Yeah, rillip is right. The media Really exaggerates. Also, Ivan was th first really nasty one in a Long time. It'r really just weird that there's another really big one so soon. Like, very weird. The losing elctricity is just a pain... I imagine even more so in July... but hey. we had the Ice Storm. ^^
Now to answer your questions... I could definitely see myself living here. If it wasn't for the whole MUST BE A PALEONTOLOGIST thing, this would have me convinced to learn Japanese 100% and move to Ueda or somewhere where I could and try to get a job as an English teacher. That would indeed be wonderful.
I think it will help me on a more long term basis to b surrounded by Japanese constantly... right now it's just confusing though. But I am starting to recognize more and more structures, if not the vocabulary... developing an ear for it, you know?
This trip is largely thanks to my Chinese teacher, Mrs Yu. Tatsuya was in her Chinese class at the University of South Alabama, and when she was having a hard time coming up with a place for me to stay in China, she asked her Japanese students if anyone would be able to host a student of hers when they go back to Japan for the summer.
There are quite a number of difference... hard to give a ratio, but maybe like, 50-50. It'll seem completely Western and then Bang, something unmistakably Japanese will pop up. They're traditional everywhere that really matters. The rest is all convenience, etc. I already knew mostly what to expect, so culture shock isn't really the right word. The only shocks I've had so far were that public bathroom in Nagano, and natto.
Tatsuya has a digital camera and he has been taking pictures with it... but his laptop is busted. So he's trying to fix that, and then I'll have the pictures.
100 yen = $1 US. so 30,000 yen would be what, $400ish Canadian? If you can get the money to me somehow, I'd most likely be able to get you one. There's going to be a whole bunch of them on sale at this big festival on the 16th and I'm hoping they'll be cheaper there. Dunno if you could get money here so soon though... But if we can manage it what colours would you prefer? Also, Id probably need to know your measurements.
As far as I know, I won't be going to Tokyo until I'm heading back to the airport on the 26th. I would love to be able to see more of it... but the Shinkansen ticket from Tokyo to Ueda was 6000 yen. o.o Not a trip I can afford to make when I don't have to.
Apparently I'm going to a bigger castle sometime... and I'd like see a bunch of beautiful temples in the area that I have information on. But yeah, I don't know.
Anyway, I think that was all? :) i will continue to write as much as I can and I'm glad you find it so interesting. ^^
