So, I went to the IRHA (Illinois Residence Hall Association) conference at UIC this weekend.
Fucking AWESOME. It was just about the most amazing thing I have ever been involved in in my entire life.
The schools that were there: North Central, University of Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, DePaul, Dominican, Illinois Wesleyan, Western, Eastern, SIU-Carbondale, SIU-Evansville, Millikin, Augustana, Loyola, Northern, and Bradley.
I met at least one person that I could totally hold a conversation with from each delegation, with the possible exception of SIU-C and Millikin. Whoops. But I made friends with pretty much the whole Dominican delegation (it was their first year at IRHA and they were smaller and less-prepared than we were), the Illinois State delegation, the president of Augustana's RHA, and a lot of the DePaul delegation (which was totally lacking a leader and any organization at the conference).
I got "boned" by NIU and WIU.
I presented a nice round-table discussion about freshman involvement and retention in RHA, and how that can help overall student retention rate.
I need to tell Jeff that I booty-danced with his girlfriend.
You'll never guess who was on the Illinois Wesleyan delegation, so I'll tell you. Jessica Wiley! Isn't that all kinds of insanity? She's doing well. She pledged a sorority (she hates it but doesn't want to leave) and is on her school's Pan-Hellenic Council (an inter-sorority organization). She still lives in the res halls, though. That's cool. I was amazed and totally surprized to see her! That was awesome.
Lexi Fiedler, who also went to Benet was there too. (But I didn't quite remember her at first...) She goes to UIC and knows my brother as the token pothead. That's cool.
We made a deal with Illinois State. Since the schools that have dogs as mascots give out bones as spirit items and say, "you got boned!", the Redbirds and the Cardinals will give out plastic Easter eggs next year and tell people, "you got laid!" I think it's the greatest idea ever.
IRHA is where a bunch of people who love their schools get together with a bunch of other people who love their schools, and everybody basically goes crazy. There is a little bit of talk about residence life thrown in there too, though...
I heart IRHA. Spread the IRHA love!!
