Hi everybody...! Another irregular update from Smithers.
First of all, it is exam time once again but this year all is well... well, nearly. I'm quite stressed, but not to anything like the degree of the previous two years. I've done two, there are three to go, and I'm feeling pretty good. At this point it would be a bit of a surprise if my degree didn't end up as a 2-1.
The main purpose of this post is to announce an event - Smithersfest: Stratford. I want to do something fun and relaxing after my exams, so... if the thought of disappearing off for a weekend in leafy Warwickshire, watching stuff and eating very tasty foods appeals to you (and you're not going to be exam stressing on the weekend of the 7-8 June), you should take a look below the cut!
My current thinking is to depart on a train from London Marylebone sometime on Friday 6th June, probably before 4pm in order to take advantage of Super Off Peak Return prices (£17, or £11.34 with a Railcard). Then to spend Friday and Saturday night at the original House of Smith[ers], watching all sorts of stuff or otherwise loafing in a post-exam sort of a way. I would bring kit to run the TV off my computer so we can watch almost anything (requests to be submitted ahead of time and I'll sort them out). One thing that's near certain is that at some point I'll be showing
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 - You Are (Not) Alone, which is by all accounts entirely awesome. Then, back down to London on Sunday, via the same route we took up.
Attractions: a change of scenery, good company, tasty foods (ask
kvetcheternal,
not_on_fire or
rebecacaca). :-) Sleeping arrangements are that there's one spare double bed in the house, so persons beyond two would need to sleep on mattresses on the floor (bring sleeping bags or such, depending on likely weather).
kvetcheternal has said he'll come, and as far as I'm concerned that's enough, but the more the merrier...!
Anyone interested?
