So yesterday, Jill and I drove down to Appleton, WI to visit StringWorks, which happens to be one of THE best string stores in the country. I went down to test out some Kallo Bartok cellos, hoping I would find one that I'd like. After a long time in agony trying to decide between 2 of the 5, I finally chose. Now I've been playing it for hours on end since I got home, and my callouses are raw. I had to stop for a while. The bridge is way too high for me, but they can't fix that until they know I'll buy it for sure. Now my only problem is... can we afford it. There's no way even with a summer job I could help to significantly pay for it. The cello itself is $4900, but I would get a free case with it (worth about $500, and I need one badly too). But this is a cello I could play on even for years and years to come. Most likely even as a professional. And the sound has gotten even better since yesterday. It's just a miraculous instrument. However, I'm not allowing myself to get too attached...just in case. That means no naming it! It's hard. So, I don't know what to do. I suppose all I can do is play it all day everyday until my 14-day trial period is up, and hope that by then my parents will see that it's an investment. If I can't get it, at least I know that these cellos are out there and how good they are. And I can enjoy these 2 weeks I have with it.
Ouchies... my fingers hurt.
