The Guild target

The damned guild was starting to get to him as he sat drinking. Those infernal bastards were at each others throats again and with a member of his family vying for the position of local guild head any repercussions were likely to come his way as well. He sighed before letting his eyes trail down to the woman that lay against his chest. “She will be their first target. Nothing like being underhanded.” He frowned as he toyed with her hair. He had resisted her and fought with himself over her but one thing had gotten to him. He always heard her, and everyone else for that matter, but she was different. Other women had lusted after him, bribed him for his protection, used him and he knew it but this one had never had that intention.

He thought it impossible the first time he had heard it in her psyche, the mind boggling and completely infuriating thought that she was acting only for his happiness. He didn’t want anyone to make him happy, didn’t need anyone to make him happy. As she slept there against his chest he could still hear her. He heard her comfort that was brought on by his presence, the slight happiness at her satisfaction with his cologne and the deafening roar of love. He scowled as the thought entered his mind. He hated knowing that she cared for him more then anything. It was like being blackmailed and he felt the rising urge to scream from his frustration.

He pushed the thought away as he took a drink and forced his mind to focus on business. There was an advantage in the current situation. If the guild splintered he was in a position to take up as guild master. He laughed, “Yeah, then everyone would know I wasn’t a human. That’s just what I need!” He finished his drink and sighed. “Not that they are not going to figure it out sooner or later." His eyes returned to the sleeping Centauri woman. The humans and the Centauri on the colony were not so pleased with what they viewed as his “Mixed relations” as a human had so adeptly referred to it. He could care less about them or at least he could have. Two days ago he had found that some of the more charming Centauri men had gotten an idea to show his “Centauri whore” what it was like to be with “real man”.

He growled thinking about them. He had lost his temper to say the least; he had felt like he had lost his mind. They had not been the brightest of Centauri as they had chosen to corner Adira by the Underground. He had been waiting there for her when he felt it. Fear. Not just any fear but her fear. He had never sensed something like that and immediately became completely out of control. His rage was blinding.

He grinned victoriously remembering them fleeing in all directions. He had managed to sneak up on them thanks to Adira’s fiery spirit. To busy dealing with her trying to kick and punch and bite and claw them, a thought that he both found frightening and oddly sexy, he had gotten a hold of one of them. It was when he was hit and they threw Adira to the ground that he had snapped. He bloodied every living thing he could get his hands on until the only thing in his presence was Adira and Na’Loth who had come to her aid. That Narn was terrified when he turned to look at Adira. “Bloody Hell, is damned right.” He hadn’t known what she meant until he saw the blood splattered across his jacket. It still brought a wry and satisfying smile to his lips to think of that moment.

His smile quickly turned to a grimace as he recalled why he had done it. She had control of his actions from time to time and the momentary desire to poison her returned. Sighing he looked to the statue, he had promised a goddess that he would protect this woman. While being mad at oneself was dangerous taking the chance of angering a god was just plain foolish. He shook his head and mocked the statue, “I don’t even know if you exist.” He chuckled but it was cut short by warm lips pressing to his. He abandoned himself to the kiss and for a brief instant found that maybe he did believe that statue could hear him.
