This is the stuff of nightmares. The amount of secondhand embarrassment is ugh...a lot. But some people are pointing out that the particular example she quoted is very problematic. Shouldn't she picked a much better example, or is this also the case of not having read things through to the end. The 14 year old teenager was punished not just for sodomy, but the victim was 6 years old. But then again, may be at the time, paedophilia would not be considered a crime?
Might this be the time that people realise the steadily declining state of print publishing? Multiple grammar errors are common nowadays, even with reputable publishers. I won't talk about self-publishing, even though there is no excuse for lazy language editing. But, grammatical mistakes are easy to spot for some people, the thing is, how many knew we are being fed wrong information?
When people say the pen is mightier than the sword, I guess the responsibility of a writer is much greater than the executioner? And it has to be said that is much harder to keep the mind sharp as opposed to a knife.
