Buffet

This morning we went to a buffet brunch in Ipswich at the 1640 Hart tavern.  Very yummy food, wonderful atmosphere and a waitstaff that was on the ball. The cooks even made two hard boiled eggs at Rythter's request for Himself, and shelled them. They were super great.  We dined with the grandparents and Rythter's uncle in from Hawaii, and Rythter's parents. They drove too, which was nice, esp. since I don't think we would have found the place. The tavern or inn is really old and very cool. Actually the ladies room was cold. But it had old fireplaces and wood beams and wide pine floors. I looked it up on line and the funny thing is, as I was entering, I told Himself  "I bet this place has some ghosts" because of it's obvious age, and when I looked it up on line, there was a story about one of the original owners being buried in the cellar because he died in the winter, and they didn't know if he was ever removed and buried elsewhere.  Heh heh!  Lots of other interesting history that went with the building, including that parts of it had been removed to museums elsewhere.  If you ever are in the area, it's good food.

I have never been to the Ipswich area, and I find it amazing how wide open it is. There were just acres and acres of open space. Lots of farm areas, and lots of horses.  Not so many trees, but certainly space. Not something I am used to seeing, and considering how it's on the ocean, or near it, it amazes me that it isn't built up like Rockport.  The town centers are really packed, but that seems to be it. I looked the town up on googlemaps, and it confirmed my observations.  We also passed by some very interesting looking antique shops that I would love to go back and poke into some day.

Tonight PBS is doing a version of Dracula. I hope it's good. I still want to see the one they did in 1977 again. Someday someone will have it available. But for now....

I went to the pond today and picked up a bucket of glass and other trash that was there. I think people in the neighborhood will think I am nuts, dragging stuff out of the woods, but the glass (a broken mirror and a broken monitor I think) was very dangerous. There is still glass frozen in the ice that any kid could fall and cut themselves on badly. I mainly wanted to get the glass, but I saw that stuff that was on the shore yesterday had been hucked onto the ice and now was too precarious to get to, and will sink to the bottom when the ice melts. So I figured I would make the two trips and get as much as I could. There is still a turntable half frozen in the ice I will try to get later when it melts. I know the kids like to make forts out of the junk, but they don't have to throw it around and break every goddam thing. I was picking up letter keys from a keyboard left and right. What a mess. There is still some glass that I could not get, but it's a lot less.  I need a rake and more than one bucket to clean that up. Maybe some other day.  My good deed for the day.
