A funeral of one, and Damn it's hot!

Yesterday's funeral for the baby was just us and the funeral director. I had set up for a service, with the greens and such, but he said that at the last minute the mother had changed her mind. Even her sister didn't come, and as of this morning, no one had been by to visit. I wonder if this will be a forgotten grave, that the toll of this death will be too much, or the job of a new baby, the twin that lived, is just more important right now and the focus of her time. If the later, maybe that is for the best. I don't think drowning in sorrow is a good thing for anyone.

I had grabbed some flowers on the way to set up, not knowing if the family would bring any. A flowerless funeral is a sad thing in my opinion. I don't know why. I get disgusted seeing funerals with endless buckets of flowers, each costing a hundred dollars or more, but at the same time, a funeral with no flowers is just the saddest thing. So I picked a few yellow rubeckia (sp) and some pink phlox that are blooming now. Cuz suggested a vase and we had a nice small one form a previous funeral. So that and the marker we made up now at least mark the grave in case the family does go by to visit. I put a flower in with the baby's coffin too, as I try to do with all burials, even cremations. (except when some of the funeral directors are there, some of them don't want anything to 'mark up' the coffin... UG!

It's been hot all week, and it's going to get hotter I guess. So far it's been bearable, about 92 at the highest, but tomorrow and Friday are supposed to bring 95 or more.... I hate this weather.... really hate it.

The grass is growing like  a jungle, with the previous weeks of rain and now the humid heat, the crab grass is in it's glory. Conversely, if that is the right word, my corn is growing pretty well, and I see tassels! If the animals don't raid the garden, maybe I will get some home grown corn this year? That will be a first I think... well, edible corn at least. I think one year I got some baby corns.

I bought myself a salvia today and a russian sage. I LOVE salvia, mostly because it's so pretty and the bees love it. Also the sage is really big and really pretty this time of year, and I see it in some plantings and covet it. Now I have one. :)
