An end of an era

Well, regardless of Ryther's reluctance, I told him I was taking the cat in today to be put to sleep. She was unable to eat much of anything, and was virtually choking on the piece of chicken (which she was eating the other day) that I gave her last night. Then this morning she was doing that same choking, head shaking thing just from drinking ( Read more... )

It's particularly sad to lose a long time cat. My condolences.

Thanks. She could be a royal PITA at times, but she was ours and we were hers.

That was a beautiful tribute.

As much as I try not to let Autumn so deep into my heart, I know that I will be equally devastated as I was when Nickie died. We can't help it, they rub, nose and purr their way into our hearts. Our lives would be less interesting, less complete and certainly less humorless without them.

Rest in Peace Smudge!

I am getting to the age were I now have to think about 'what will happen to my cats.... if something happens to me." If I live to be 80, and Muffin lives to 19, I guess I can have one more cat after that... but what if I only live to 68? She might be my last cat? Yeah, I need to get out more. Too much doom and gloom.

I'm so sorry. 19 years is a long time to love someone and a hard thing to lose someone.

I'm glad you were able to see when the end was there - holding onto an animal that is dying is not kind, but it's not easy. I'm frustrated that the first vet wouldn't honor your request - that's not what a vet is for.

I'm glad you shared about her life. I am honored to read about it. Thank you for that.

How is the rest of the family holding up?
