The Station nightclub fire

The Station nightclub burned in Rhode Island about 3 years ago, and the owners have been or are being sentenced in the deaths of 100 people.  The news had 10 minutes of the victim impact statements and the owners own words in court.  While I know that no one intended this fire to happen, nor the deaths, I think that the one person or institute that ( Read more... )

are only human, therefor a little envelope of cash can okay even a sinking titanic. wierd, but true; must of been somebody whom got bribed well to miss such items. many stories abound where even multiple inspectors passed poorly done construction for money or political favors. I like your blog statements. Wildflower 06

Which is all the more reason these (all) inspectors should be held accountable. One could excuse something that changed after the inspection, like doors being blocked or if the foam was not there when they looked, but it was. They are culpable as far as I am concerned.
I know that bribes and favoritism are part of the culture but they aren't supposed to be, and we should fight it when it creeps into the law. Who knows if the Judge didn't get a bribe in this case? My mother has a neighbor who has had drunken driving violations that are covered up because he is friends with the chief of police. Here is a case where someone could die because of someone else looking the other way. But what can you do?
Thanks for reading. Always nice to have an Avid Fan. (see Manhunter)

It's a movie. It's actually THE movie that started the whole CSI (crime scene investigator) series craze and that whole "put yourself in the mind of the killer" craze that movies and tv shows have been doing for the last 10 or so years. Manhunter, written by Thomas Harris, was the first Hannibal Lecktor movie, but it didn't star Anthony Hopkins(Silence of the Lambs) in the role, which was a minor role in Manhunter (they later re-made the movie with Anthony Hopkins and made his part much bigger) but it was a very good movie.
William Petersen played the investigator. He is currently in CSI in basically the same roll.
The reference was to a scene in the movie where the killer writes to Hannibal for advise and signs his letters Avid Fan.
Sorry, I'm a sucker for a quote.
