The bird in the mirror

Despite the fact that I left he house without my coffee this morning and had to buy some on the way, the day actually went very well, also considering that we did a dig and funeral all before noon.

The dig went well. Although it was a very rocky gravel, it did not cave in before the vault got there. The funeral was on time, another good thing. And we got it all put back together in short order.

As for who was responsible for the fiasco? Or I should say the potential fiasco. It was once again the 'new guy' at the funeral home it seems Mr. X, who seems to be on a little to no notice kick, was in charge of this burial, or at least he was the one who came with it today. It's really hard to tell. I think they had the guys I usually deal with call me to tell me of the screw up, thinking I would be more sympathetic to them, which I was. They've always been very good with me and my father through the years. But at the funeral it was Mr. X and one of the new owners.
When the funeral arrived, we got no real greeting by the new owner or Mr. X. The old guys make it a point to say hi and even shake your hand. It really is a nice gesture, and it's part of why everyone likes them. Well, I guess things are changing. After the funeral. Mr. X was gone. The new owner guy apologized briefly, no big deal. No "We really appreciate you getting this done." Just a quick thanks like hey, no big deal. I did tell him if I hadn't been able to get the stone moved it wouldn't have been done. Whatever. And the icing on the cake for me.. they left before the vault cover went on. That's always been something the old guys would NEVER do, not unless there was some major time suck and they had to be at something else to meet a family or something. They always stayed or had someone stay to see the vault covered. Its just what they did and over the years, I've noted that some funeral homes do that, but many leave as soon as the coffin is lowered, and the really bad ones before that even happens. Another sign of the times?

In other news, we have a very confused bird at the cemetery. The other day my cousin said she saw a bird on the other side of her car, thought it was inside her car, then realized it was on her window and it was looking in her side mirror. Then yesterday we saw a bird do the same thing on a car of a visitor, and he flew into the mirror a few times before the owner came back and he flew away. Today the bird was doing that same thing to her car again as we went by in the truck, then he came over to the truck mirror as we had stopped to watch him, and he the same thing right next to me as I sat there, then I moved and he flew away. He's some kind of sparrow, but not the house sparrows I don't think, he's a bit smaller and has a light brown yamaka. I have to look him up and see what he is.
