Sunday my MIL took us (her grandkids and I) on an adventure to Newport RI. We had a fun time. On the way down we stopped at the Newport Creamery and got a nice inexpensive meal. The kids got Awful Awfuls, which are basically Frapes. Then we got to down town Newport, a tourist trap of grand proportions. Reminded me of Rockport. As their birthday gift, the boys got to make their own paperweight out of glass. Very fun and cool, well, hot really. The niece was going to go to Wolf Hollow for her day, but decided to the paperweight once she saw the boys doing it. I'm still hoping we can do WH later on.
It will take 2 days for the glass to cool. If it doesn't get cooled slowly, it could shatter. Learn something new every day. The guy who did the 'class' was very nice and patient.
And of course as I saw the non stop gas furnaces heating the glass oven and the rods, I couldn't help but think that this was yet another waste of energy. Not that I don't think they should have the shop, but why waste all that heat, especially during the winter? Why not use it to heat some other shops? UGGG it drives me nuts how badly our country is designed.
Anyway, cant wait to see the finished glass, as it looked just glowing orange at the time.
Also on the way down to Newport we passed two massive wind turbines off the highway. And one old farm wind mill that was not working but was obviously a once working mill. And it looked like there was a nuke plant off in the distance, which I didn't realize RI had. Have to look that one up.
Also I think I mentioned my fear of my MIL's driving. Well, guess what. Aside from a few missed stop signs and such, she never tailgated the whole ride. I really do think that it was her eyes. My mother said her friend tail gaits like crazy, and she's going in for a cataract operation. I told her to see if her driving changes after. It will be interesting to note. Makes me wonder if my aunt has vision problems as she does the same.
Well, time to try to watch some Mad Men. Who needs to do the taxes.
Oh and we have 3 funerals this week. Which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the rain. Yuck.
