This, to me, is really sad. IMO, term limits are the most important thing about our government. No matter what, we only get stuck with a president for eight years, tops. This is a good thing. It keeps the office more important than the individual.

I see it very much like what happened in Germany with Hitler. Scary thoughts there. And anyone who refuses to give up power is scary. And then there are his 'supporters' who refuse to let others take over in lesser offices. There goes the 'democracy'.

That's weird, that was supposed to go with Mrknowitall's post. Anyway, as for Obama, I honestly thought it would have been Bush 2 who would have held onto the throne. Being in a war and all. He didn't much care for the Constitution anyway. To his credit, he did leave. That's about all I give him though.

I really doubt Dubya could have won a third term. Things had gotten bad enough that the American people were ready to clean house. That's one thing about the American culture, we don't take well to being pushed around.

That said, I'd hesitate to say it couldn't ever happen. I think Reagan probably could have stayed president as long as he felt like it. That, to me, was the scariest thing about his administration. A lot of people liked him, and were perfectly willing to forgive him his faults because he projected sincerity so well. It surprises me that we don't have more actors in politics.
