I keep hitting the wrong buttons. I lost a huge entry on another blog. I'll try again tomorrow.
So I sent Rythter out to get toothpaste for Himself, the kiddy kind. He came back with Crest. I just happen to look at where it was made. Mexico. Back it went. Paranoid? No, not really. I'm sure it's probably fine. But honestly, I'm done with this whole idea that food products and things that go in our bodies are going to be made in third world countries because they are cheaper. You get what you pay for. The Globe had a great article this Sunday about the US "sacrificing standards to its pursuit of profit" about the US 150 years ago. Not that that has fully changed here. Love Canal isnt an isolated case. Someone recently posted something about a power plant being allowed to dump mercury into one of the Great Lakes, the list is endless. But should I go along willingly for the ride if I don't have to? No. I will read the labels, and I will buy accordingly. If there is no stated country of origin, back it goes. I even put down a Snickers bar today because I know Herseys is making chocolate in Mexico now too, and it didn't say where it was made. This could be very good for my health in some ways, more so than avoiding possible toxins.
On the subject of toxins, and so that you know I know it's not all just foreigners, Cox News Service had an article about BPA, which is in the blood of virtually every American. It's a 'estrogen-mimicking substance'. 6 billion pounds of it are used every year. Its in Coke cans, "but it poses no risk to consumers". Just like I am sure Teflon poses no risk. It's one of those things that will take 50 years to figure out, and by then who knows what it will have done for harm. Those Autism rates just keep looking creepier and creepier.
Buy your cans of tuna now, "Bluefins declining in the Gulf of Maine." They are thinner, smaller, and there are less of them.
And lastly there were a few pages yesterday devoted to sex offenders. What really irks me is that there are so many people being labled as sex offenders that any moron can see are not sex offenders, yet they have to register and sometimes it's for life. For example "In Pennsylvania, a 13 year old girl who took pictures of herself naked will be a sex offender for life. Two Virginia teen girls who took topless pictures of each other must register for life, In Wisconsin, a young woman will register for years because, as a 9 year old, her mother made her and her 6 year old sister perform sex acts" That last one is just beyond me. You are punishing a child for being forced to do something they had no control over. The lawyers and judge should all be flayed alive.
