Unfortunately, it's the only thing that is going to get me to run a 4 hour marathon this may. So, while I'm home, I dusted off my parents' treadmill and decided to do timed half-miles, with full recovery (3-4) minutes in between, doing stretching and ab work. Times: 4:15, 4:10, 4:01, and (gasp!) 3:53! Folks that last one works out to a 7:36 mile (not that I could actually keep that pace for an entire mile, but still). I was running in some old clothes and shoes that i leave at the house for just such an occasion, my old responses w/ the broken heel cushion and a pair of ratty boxer shorts and 2 old stretched out sport bras.
This is one of the best workouts I've had in a while. In my book, there was always only one reason to do sprints, and it had nothing to do with running ;) but damn, today was a good treadmill workout.
