more books to read. that brings the tally up to nearly 20. i don't think i've ever had such a significant stack waiting for me and the thought thrills me. as does my 160-some netflix queue.
books i got for christmas:
believers - charles baxter
hot water music - charles bukowski
middlesex - jeffrey eugenides
high lonesome - joyce carol oates
how we are hungry - dave eggers
water for elephants - sarah gruen
desolation angels - jack kerouac
i saw both sweeney todd and the golden compass on my 4 day christmas weekend. both were stellar. i am rather sick of hearing people bash the golden compass based on its "anti-christian" messages. sigh. it's okay for c.s. lewis to fling out allegories, but heaven forbid someone refer to souls as daemons. i really don't understand the way things work sometimes. i did get a chuckle out of the fact that they played the trailer for the next narnia movie as a preview before the golden compass. hollywood could care less and it makes me laugh.
i've been watching a lot of independent-ish movies lately, and they've made me feel extremely introspective...(waitress, c.r.a.z.y., tarnation, the namesake.) i'd recommend all of those to anyone who's interested. especially waitress.
i leave tomorrow night to spend the weekend and new year's eve in greensboro. hopefully that will start my year out right, but i suppose we'll see.
