So, as promised, an eventual, & real, update.

Summer has been busy. I spent a good chunk of it (July 6 -23) travelling. I got to see a lot of people :-), but not as many as I would have liked. I went to MA with joecarnahan & Kaia to see my family. I had relatives from Nova Scotia who were coming down to spend the week on Cape Cod so we got to join them. It was a lot of fun. I saw most of them 2 years ago in NS when we had our family reunion (I guess this was a family reunion too, just not officially discussed as such) I got to see my cousin Christy. It's funny, our parents trade news about us to each other and then we hear about it so it feels like we know each other very well. However, when I stop to think about it, until this trip I don't think that I had actually seen her since I was 12. She or I was always missing when our families got together. I also go to meet her new husband Jeremy who is a lot of fun. I know that I have complained a lot about living in the middle of nowhere, but Christy and Jeremy are actually going to the real middle of nowhere to teach this year. They are moving to Igloolik, Nunavut Territory, which is above the tree-line and where they get 2.5 months of darkness. I complain about having to drive so far to run errands, but they won't have to worry about that... there are no roads.

On the American family side I got to meet my cousin Jason's new wife. He went to China on a three-week exchange a few years ago and long story short, met someone. He's been back there a few times and this time had gone back for most of this academic year. He and Rachel got married in April, I believe, and they came to visit for the summer. I don't know if they know what they are doing next, how long they are staying in the US but they are here through the summer, and maybe longer.

Speaking of weddings, my next trip was to Illinois, officially for Liza & Ben's wedding, but just getting to visit a whole bunch of people in the process... wmelephant was kind enough to let me commandeer her futon for almost a week. It was a good trip, and a lot of fun. Though it really makes me wish IL wasn't so far from the east coast so I could see all these people that are scattered around the state/midwest more often.

Since I have been back I have been studying for the Master's exam retake that I will be doing (written is Sept 1, oral Sept 8, I will be back in IL at least for the oral) and job hunting. I sent out a bunch of applications, no success so far. I did have 1 interview yesterday, but it didn't go so well and I wasn't called back for the second round today. Oh well, now I have one under my belt.

I have been in Charlottesville hanging out with Joe this weekend, and these couple of days. Tonight I'll go see a college friend who is in Lynchburg visiting her mom, up from Florida, and then sometime tomorrow I'll head back to Northampton with Kaia and lots of empty boxes for packing.

off to try to do something productive before I leave to meet Katya.
