i have been writing this entry for quite a while at about 3 words a day

Last Saturday I went to The Last Frog. A strange thing to do, perhaps, since I don't really like Frog and never go, but what the hell. Kid Harpoon was playing. First, vodka, then The Bricklayer's for my last ever pub + cigarettes session. Gutted. Frog was chaos. I knew there'd be long queues (did anyone listen to me? No!) but it was even worse than ( Read more... )

I swear I saw Johnny Borrell doing weird hand-dancing at T in the Park.

I saw it too! I thought I was going a bit strange for a minute, but he was doing hand-dancy movements. He definitely was. I think he was trying to interprate his lyrics via the medium of the hand...? Or something? And then I was like 'Oh noes, Special Johnny has made up dance moves to his own songs. Like Steps. Or that song, Saturday Night or The Macarena.' That would be a bit horrifying and disturbing, but also, on some level, if Johnny decided that each new Razorlight single will come with dance moves, I would find that quite brilliant.

Also - I saw an advert for that T4 thing. You'd be great!

Steps was the comparison I thought of too! I think it was the hands-over-ears thing. Bit strange, though. Apparently in the new NME interview he brought his own dictaphone, and I think those barbed-wire photos were a low. Still, it would definitely amuse me if he made up a dance routine to America.

My problems with the T4 thing are a) the fancy dress thing & b) extreme nervousness that occurs at random times. I got a bit panicked on the phone until she asked me what bands were formed by ex-members of The Libertines. After that I was just chuckling to myself!

Yeah I've got that issue of the NME with his interview. He was oh so Special in it! And he did bring a dictaphone it said, yeah. I was quite disturbed by those barbed-wire pictures. I'm not sure what the message was supposed to be there... - If Jesus were a white boxer who liked to take his top off, he'd be Johnny Borrell? Strange. Anyway.

Hah. That's a great question to answer. I bet she'd just be expecting you to say DPT and Babyshambles, and would probably have to go and research it when you said Yeti too. (Alas, poor John.) I wonder if you'd get extra points for saying Razorlight too, since Johnny was once in The Libertines - albeit for about five minutes or something. (Though the entries in Peter's journals in that Books Of Albion seem to make it feel like he was in for longer than we were led to believe in Kids In The Riot...? I'm confused.)

Special Johnny is definitely a wronged martyr who will not be understood by the masses in his lifetime... Ahem.

I think she actually asked: "3 members of The Libertines went on to form which other bands?" Poor John.

My Books of Albion was 'borrowed' as soon as I put it down so I haven't had a chance to read the good bits properly (ie everything before the 150 pages of Kate Moss-related stuff.) I think he was in The Libertines in the 90s and then invited back briefly after Banny returned. I guess there were just loads of heroin-related issues with bass players. How ironic, etc. I think Johnny mainly did a pseudo-Bob Dylan act for a few years. And Johnny Borrell & The Hustlers, which I think I was told was him and some gospel singers. Bless.

3 members of The Libertines went on to form which other bands - She is clearly including Gary as a co-founder of DPT. Obviously. ;-)

Awwwww. I'd love to hear Johnny Borrell & The Hustlers! I guess that's the explanation for those gospel singers who he took round all the festivals with him a couple of years ago. I still have visions of Johnny in the BBC camp/studio with wellies on, singing an acoustic Golden Touch, with half a gospel choir behind him.... Oh Johnny. ILU.
