Ric O'Barry has his own tv show now, called
Blood Dolphins. It follows Ric and his team across the world exposing the slaughter of dolphins.
I'm excited for this. I'm so glad that this dedicated crew is out there exposing these atrocities, bringing it to light.
It's so fascinating, and such a relief, to hear examples of people who came to the conclusion that killing dolphins isn't the same as any other animal on their own. In the first episode they interviewed a Japanese dolphin hunter, who one day hoisted a dolphin up to kill. He locked eyes with it, and in that moment he knew that this wasn't just an animal. He set it free, and never killed another dolphin. Now that man uses his killing boat to bring tourists out to sea to slaughter for profit to watch wild dolphins.
One of the crew said something that really drove the point home also. He called the killing of dolphins "genocide." I'm inclined to agree. As another sentient being, the mass slaughter of them is abhorrent and senseless.
I've always liked dolphins (who doesn't?), but I'm a little shocked at how much this Taiji thing upsets me.
