This date last year:
Wrote the car off This date today: Wrote the car off.
Yep. Driving home from work we got hit. It's snowing, the roads are literally sheer ice. Like thick, zero-traction-you-can-barely-get-moving-at-the-lights slick.
So what does this asshole do? Swings across three lanes of traffic and cut off an SUV. The guy driving the SUV had to veer sharply into my lane to avoid hitting this shitsmear who braked hard as as he was coming in front of him. Traffic in my lane is stopped, though I'm still slowly rolling to the line up. He tries to stop but goes into a skid, so he changes tack and tries to dodge into the last lane and hit the ditch. But he fishtails and goes sideways.
As soon as I saw that he wasn't going to be able to stop I got off the brake and tried to ease forward - I had enough room that I was hoping I might be able to clear him but still be far enough that I wouldn't hit the car in front of me. No go. Martino heard me mutter "aw shit" right before the SUV hit us. We bumped forward, but not as hard as I expected, probably because we were already rolling forward. The SUV did a 180 and also hit the car in front of me.
The guy in the SUV leapt out and tried to catch the license plate of the car that cut him off. The asshole stopped farther up the lane, got out and took a quick look, then got back in and drove away. It was too dark and he was to far away for anyone to see his plate.
No one was hurt, so we pulled off to the side to exchange information.
So we may or may not be leaving for Alberta on Friday - the car is still drivable, except that the right side signal and brake lights are out and the trunk caved in (the SUV totally missed the bumper), so with one person having to sit in the back we won't have a whole lot of room to bring luggage for 2 weeks for 2 people... The truck just isn't a financially feasible option, because it will cost more than twice as much to drive (not to mention me wedged between two 250+lb men for 7 hours? Nuh-unh.).
