Free advertising?

I know, I know. I'm a very particular person when it comes to Capitalism. I'm wary of advertising and absolutely loathe it when products make claims that are blatantly untrue. But I appreciate good ad campaigns, and if an advertisement irritates me enough I'll boycott the product purely on principal.

But I am turning into a raging whore for Heritage. I cannot get over how utterly fabulous their Extreme Winter Gloves are. Seriously. After tonight I was so thrilled with them that I wrote the company a love letter:

I felt compelled to write to you to thank you for making THE BEST winter glove I have ever worn. Not just the best winter riding glove, but the best glove period.

I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, and winters here can be brutal. I knew I needed a good pair, but I've hated every pair of winter gloves I've ever bought. The competition was all much of the same; thick fuzzy fleece or bulky padded gloves. Terrible for riding in, and I still freeze my fingers off. After reading the packaging for the Heritage Extreme Winter gloves I decided to go big and try them. I wasn't convinced that they would be as good as the package claims, but if they were even half that I would have been moderately satisfied.

This week the average temperature has been -25c with a windchill dropping to below -40c. I don't have the luxury of a heated arena, so anything riding that's done is in these temperatures (though thankfully out of the wind!).

I couldn't even use my Extreme Winter gloves until the temperature dropped below -15c. They were just too warm and my hands would sweat too much. But once the real cold started they've been a lifesaver. Not only do they keep my hands remarkably warm, but they're so surprisingly thin that they offer the best grip and feel of any winter riding glove I've ever used.

Tonight the temperature is -29c plus windchill. I froze my fingers wearing my normal winter gloves while shoveling snow, and I still had to walk the dog (No, it's not true that all Canadians own sled dogs, we just happened to end up with a husky!). I decided to put the Heritage gloves to the test. I was outside for 45 minutes in the open in the cold. Not once did I put my hands in my pockets or even feel the need to flex my fingers to get the blood flowing. My hands were literally as warm and comfortable as they are in the house, even the one that was always holding the leash. My hands have NEVER been that warm in gloves, and certainly not at those temperatures.

These gloves impressed me so much that I just had to write to your company right away with a big THANK YOU for such an amazing product. I'm not big on advertising for any kind of brand name, but this is one product that I'll promote to anyone willing to listen. I even went back to the store I bought them from just to tell them what a wonderful product they are!

Okay, I think I've run on long enough. One more enthusiastic THANKS, and I'm out.

Deb Verhaeghe

PS: These gloves ROCK!!!

If I could afford it I would buy nothing but these for people for christmas - even non-riders, because they're THE WARMEST gloves EVER.

rant, random, bad weather, amazing
