“But Daaaaaddy,” Marie rang out, running down. “I wanna go play now!” She had her play jumper on, and was in the process of pulling her sneakers on. Blaine knealt down, helping her. “We have to wait for Papa, sweetie, okay? You know it-“

“I know, it takes him longer to get dressed.” She’d come to grips with her Papa being different a long time ago, but she was only 8, so it sometimes slipped her mind. “Okay then, we’ll wait. Papa, ready when you are!”

Cameron smiled softly, getting dressed slowly and carefully. It was still hard get dressed sometimes, but Blaine shopped for him at different blind-friendly stores, so it helped him to make sure he matched and put on the right clothes for the season. He put on a pair of jeans and a tee shirt, then sat down on the bed to put on his sneakers. He heard Marie call and laughed, finishing his shoe and getting his cane. He was bringing Roxy, but the dog would want to play too, so he brought the cane as well. He hated it-it made him feel handicapped. But it was necessary, he knew that as well. “On my way, baby.”

He carefully made his way downstairs, cane tapping on the wooden stairs gently. He stopped, whistling as Roxy came out, out of her harness for the day. Marie giggled, clapping and Roxy came over, nuzzling her hand and licking her. “Can we play with the puppy, Papa?” Marie knew that sometimes Roxy couldn’t play, so she always had to ask first. At Cameron’s nod, she grinned, running out and calling for Roxy. Blaine smiled, picking up the basket and taking Cameron’s arm. “Ready, sweetie?”

“Ready,” Cameron said, smiling. As he heard his daughter laugh and play with Roxy in the van, he settled back in the seat, closing his eyes and listening to the sounds of the family he never thought he would have.
