All ferrets all the time

I'm ferret sitting baby ferrets and their mom, Dina. The babies are 5 weeks old. Fur is starting to come in what color they'll be. There are 3 boys and 2 girls. Part of socializing babies is handling them. T has taken that role to heart.

At 5 wks baby ferrets ears and eyes have just opened. They've been eating mush since 3 wks and gnawing on chix and mice. They're old enough to eat chix and mice and do it with relish. They are still nursing and still eating mush. While hard food is available they don't really start eating it until 6 wks. There's always a baby in the food dish trying anyway.

They get 1 bowl of mush, 1 chick and 2 mice, twice a day. Typical of ferrets, everything ends up in the litter box. We need to check around the outside of the cage to be sure that no parts have fallen on the floor.

There are a couple of rules. Don't handle the babies while they are nursing or eating.

We've been taking, Dina, the mother and putting her in the ferret playpen. When she appears to be distressed about her babies we put her back in the cage and hanlding time is over. The babies are handled one at a time. Dina has been pretty relaxed about one baby being taken out at a time while she is in cage.

They have that new car, ooops, new baby smell. LOL!

Like any baby animals, baby ferrets are too cute for words.
